Horner enorm trots: "Max was enorm dominant"

Max Verstappen werd op bizarre wijze wereldkampioen in Suzuka. De Nederlander won de ingekorte Grand Prix waarna hij tot kampioen werd uitgeroepen na een tijdstraf van Charles Leclerc. De twijfel bleef eventjes bestaan maar al snel gaf de FIA duidelijkheid. Verstappen was wereldkampioen en Christian Horner was trots.

Verstappen reed een vrij simpele Grand Prix in Japan. De Nederlander reed weg bij de concurrentie en moest zijn wagen eigenlijk alleen nog maar om de baan houden. Verstappen won maar er was onduidelijkheid over de hoeveelheid punten. Nadat de FIA dit had verduidelijkt en de tijdstraf van Leclerc was doorgedrongen, barstte er een Red Bull-feestje los.

Ook Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner was eventjes helemaal uit het veld geslagen. De Brit was uiteindelijk zeer trots op zijn coureur en sprak zich uit bij Sky Sports: "We dachten dat er geen volledige punten werden uitgedeeld. Dat draaide de zaakjes allemaal om. We dachten dat we een puntje tekort zouden komen dus we wilden voor de snelste ronde gaan. Maar dit, wow. Dit gaat verder dan we durfden dromen."

Dominant

Horner is trots op het gehele team, van de mensen op het circuit tot de mensen in de fabriek. De Britse teambaas deelde zijn complimenten uit na afloop van de absurde titelontknoping: "Max was echt enorm dominant. Dit is onze veertiende zege van het jaar en dat is een record voor ons. De manier waarop hij racete vandaag.... We kwamen terug na een paar moeilijkheden in de eerste paar races."

Ik zit in de kroeg in ons dorp met 30 man te kijken naar een regenwedstrijd, die onnodig 1 uur wordt uitgesteld. Halve of driekwart punten worden uitgedeeld volgens de commentator.
Opeens wordt Perez het woord ontnomen, Max kampioen, effe later weer die twijfel, effe later weer een aankondiging Max kampioen, welnu 25 potten bier later is Max toch 2malig kampioen. Proost.

  Maar... hoe zit het nou met het te vroeg afvlaggen van de race waardoor deze één ronde korter was?
  Verstappen was immers al langs start/finish toen de timer op nul kwam te staan.
  Desondanks kwam er het bericht "final lap" (die ook weer meteen werd weggehaald) en werd iedereen bij de de eerstvolgende doorkomst afgevlagd.
  
  Ik zou nog even door blijven zuipen totdat ook dát duidelijk wordt.

  @Evert. Wat ik begrepen heb, is dat op de officiële tijdwaarneming van de FIA Max nog niet over de streep was toen de timer 00:00 aangaf. Dus toen hij over de lijn ging, werd het ook gelijk last lap.
  
  Ik kan het zelf niet zo 123 terug vinden.. maar dat zou een reden kunnen zijn.

  dat bericht final lap heeft toch echt gewoon zo'n 25 seconden in beeld gestaan, net zo lang als vorige week in Singapore toen de race ook over de tijdslimiet ging.

Na een slechte start wegens onbetrouwbaarheid hebben Max en RBR zich op een geweldige manier herpakt, waarna Max de bull volledig op een hoopje heeft gereden, met deze dondersmooie 2e titel als gevolg.

  Uiteindelijk na de slechte start van het seizoen is het Max die de Bull Red en vandaag zijn 2e titel pakt. Geweldig. Ik pak nog een biertje!
