Hamilton baalt niet van vijfde plaats: "Ik ben niet gefrustreerd"

De Japanse Grand Prix van afgelopen weekend was een opvallend inhaalfestijn. Op het kletsnatte circuit van Suzuka moesten de fans lang wachten op de actie maar toen de race eenmaal werd hervat barstte het van de mooie duels. Lewis Hamilton deed er alles aan om Esteban Ocon te verschalken maar hij faalde in zijn missie.

Hamilton kwam al snel na de herstart vast te zitten achter de Alpine van Ocon. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen reed veelvuldig vlak achter Ocon maar een geslaagd inhaalpoging kwam er nooit. Hamilton moest dan ook genoegen nemen met de vijfde plaats, Ocon kwam als vierde over de streep en was uitzinnig. Het verschil op de lijn was minder dan een seconde.

Rechte stukken

Hamilton kende afgelopen weekend dus een teleurstellende Grand Prix in Japan. De Britse Mercedes-coureur is bezig met een teleurstellend seizoen en reageerde bij Sky Sports: "Ik ben niet gefrustreerd. Ik heb gewoon mijn best gedaan en ik ben blij we in ieder geval wel punten hebben gepakt. Maar we waren gewoon te langzaam op de rechte stukken. Zodra we vol gas gingen verloor ik terrein."

Televisie

De Britse Mercedes-coureur kan uiteindelijk wel leven met zijn vijfde plaats. Hamilton hoopte op meer rondjes maar wist dat het vrijwel onmogelijk was, ook het inhalen van Ocon bleek niet mogelijk: "Ik kwam zo dichtbij als ik maar kon. Je moet dat waarschijnlijk wel zien op de televisie. Zodra ik had ingehouden was Ocon gewoon weggereden. Ik zou willen dat het een langere race was. Ik ben blij dat we hier wat rondjes hebben kunnen rijden voor de fans."

  Daarnaast is p5/6 realistisch gezien gewoon de plek waar die Benz op basis van snelheid thuis hoort. Normaliter mag je er 2 bulls en 2 ferraris voor verwachten. In Japan viel er 1 ferrari weg wiens plekje ingepikt werd door Ocon. Esteban heeft dat gewoon heel goed gedaan.

Lewis had net als Fernando naar binnen moeten gaan voor verse banden.
Voor Alpine was het 'n goede call in ieder geval, mss had het voor Lewis ook het verschil kunnen maken.

  Het valt mij op dat Lewis (met zijn team) te behouden is als het natte omstandigheden zijn.
  Zowel in Imola als in Japan werd er te laat naar de vervolgband gegrepen (IMO: Inters->Slicks, JAP: FW -> Inter) terwijl ze in beide gevallen niet veel te verliezen hadden en wel veel te winnen, want in beide gevallen zat hij muurvast achter zijn voorligger(s).

Ik vind het wel grappig om te lezen dat veel mensen, als een coureur, teambaas en redacteur links zegt bepaalde personen rechts zeggen en/of het altijd beter weten dan de persoon in kwestie 🤣🤣🤣.

En nu in topic. Ik denk wanneer je zelf t maximale eruit hebt gehaald, je tevreden kunt zijn 😅
