Steiner wil sprintformat aanpassen: "Wie kijkt er nou naar een nutteloze training?"

Sinds vorig seizoen wordt er in de Formule 1 geëxperimenteerd met het sprintrace-format. Dit seizoen stonden er drie sprints op de planning, in Brazilië wordt later dit jaar de laatste sprint van die drie verreden. Volgend seizoen zijn er dubbel zoveel sprints en Günther Steiner hoopt dat men het een en ander gaat aanpassen aan het format.

Momenteel wordt er in het sprintweekend één training en de kwalificatie verreden op de vrijdag. Op zaterdag wordt er dan eerst een tweede training verreden alvorens men alles gereed gaat maken voor de sprint. De uitslag van de sprint bepaald alsnog de startopstelling van de race op zondag. Het format valt nog steeds niet zo goed bij iedereen.

Ook Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner is niet geheel tevreden met het huidige format. Vooral de tweede vrije training op zaterdag valt niet goed bij de Italiaan. In gesprek met Ekstra Bladet is hij duidelijk: "Wie kijkt er nou naar een nutteloze training?  We kunnen het wat pittiger maken door het een kwalificatie te maken voor de race. We hebben het daar nog niet over gehad maar ze denken al na over wat de volgende stap zal moeten zijn."

    Goed punt, die training is voor de F1 kijker een beetje suf.

    Ik vond de vrijdag altijd de fijnste dag met een bezoek aan de F1. Juist door de trainingen had je de mogelijkheid alles wat rustiger te bekijken.

      Zou je Parc Ferme er af moeten halen, VT1 is voor optimale qual. setup en VT2 voor de race setup

      Precies @Ligier. Dan is er ook een kans dat iemend tussen sprint en hoofdrace een flinke setup wijziging durft te doen en daardoor niet alles meteen duidelijk is na de sprint race. Nunis de snelste in de sprint waarschijnlijk ook de snelste in de hoofdrace.

    Net zo nutteloos als de andere vrije trainingen. Sommigen vinden het leuk andere niet.

    Er kan maar 1 race zijn, alles wat erbij verzonnen wordt, is gewoon 3 maal niets, ze willen teveel, en dit pakt gewoon heel slecht uit.

    Terug naar af hoe het was, daar komen ze ook weer vanzelf, want het gaat toch niet werken die sprintraces.

    Het is gewoon net niet, hier houd niemand van, en zal ook niet gaan slagen, uiteraard gaan ze er nu nog mee door.

      Niemand? Ik vond het sprintraces leuker dan vrijetrainingen. Al mag er wel een aparte kwalificatie voor zowel de sprintrace als de hoofdrace gedaan worden (vrijdag 1 VT en kwalificatie voor sprintrace en zaterdag 1 kwalificatie voor hoofdrace en daarna de sprintrace). Het aantal van 6 per seizoen vind ik prima en hoeven er beslist niet meer te worden.

      Dat gaat nooit werken, de kosten als een auto in de prak gaat, en de echte race is veel belangrijker.

      Zo zijn er nog een 30 tal punten, en de meeste rijders vinden het ook niets, omdat het gewoon niet de race is waar het omgaat.

      Vandaar het nooit iets gaat worden.
