Bottas ziet IndyCar-avontuur na F1-loopbaan wel zitten

Valtteri Bottas is voorlopig nog actief in de Formule 1 voor het team van Alfa Romeo. De ervaren Fin is zich bewust van het feit dat hij niet voor eeuwig actief kan blijven in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Bottas kijkt dan ook verder vooruit en steekt zijn interesse voor de IndyCar niet onder stoelen of banken.

Bottas rijdt sinds dit seizoen voor het team van Alfa Romeo, daarvoor kwam hij geruime tijd uit voor het topteam van Mercedes. Zijn eerste halfjaar in dienst van Alfa Romeo verliep zeer succesvol maar inmiddels zijn de resultaten steeds minder geworden. Desalniettemin geniet Bottas nog steeds van zijn races en kijkt hij ook al verder vooruit.

Interessant

De IndyCar Series is populair onder de Formule 1-coureurs maar velen geven aan het niet aan te durven. Bottas staat iets anders in de zaak en is duidelijk in de podcast The Ringer F1 Show: "Ik heb daar zeker over nagedacht. Ik nog wel een paar seizoenen in de Formule 1 voor me, ik heb voor mijn gevoel genoeg te geven in deze sport. Ik heb wel nagedacht en de IndyCar is best interessant, we zullen zien."

Minder politiek

Bottas is fan van het racen in de Verenigde Staten en dat steekt hij niet onder stoelen of banken. De Fin denkt tevens dat de IndyCar wel iets voor hem is: "Het lijkt mij een zeer coole klasse. De circuits zijn mooi en het racen is daar echt puur. Voor zover ik weet is het er ook een stuk minder politiek dan in de Formule 1. Ook lijkt het erop dat de IndyCar tegenwoordig steeds populairder wordt in Europa. Ik ken veel mensen die de klasse volgen maar laten we het afwachten."

Als ik Valtteri was zou ik op zoek gaan naar een raceklasse waarin de seizoenen kort zijn, zeg, maximaal 10 races. Net lang genoeg, voordat hij gaat inkakken. De W-series misschien? ;-)

Ga maar snel dan! In Formule 1 voeg je weinig tot niets doe, ik zie liever een nieuw talent in dat stoeltje.

  Volgens mij leest Bottas hier niet mee, hoor. Misschien kun je proberen in zijn DM's te sliden als je denkt dat je hem iets boeiends te zeggen hebt.

  ik sla Bottas ook niet zo hoog aan, maar goed genoeg om in de Indycars nog wat succes te boeken,
  bovendien heeft hij al een beetje Amerikaans postuur ;)

Ik denk dat zijn persoonlijkheid niet aanslaat in Amerika, wat daar wel een dingetje is. Daarnaast racet hij ook niet spectaculair genoeg en vraag ik me af of hij de ballen heeft voor de ovals. Hij is de enige coureur die ik met trillende handjes zie na een kwalificatie en altijd een van de weinigen die circuits nog te nat vindt om te racen. Ik zie hem eerder in de FE belanden... Hoewel, dan zie ik hem dus niet.

  Gek genoeg lijkt hij me wel geschikt voor ovals. Al vanaf zijn Williams tijd was hij goed in slipstream pakken en op snelheid er voorbij. Zo haalde hij zijn resultaten bij Williams, maar ook de races die hij won gingen zo.
  Ik zal het nooit weten denk ik want ik kijk verder geen IndiCar.

  Vooral die eerste sector was mega. Alles onder controle. Dank voor het delen, THW.
  
  Bottas is zeker geen slechte rijder. Super snel. Valt me wel een beetje tegen dat hij nu al moeite heeft met Zhou. Zou ook iets kunnen zeggen over Zhou natuurlijk.
