Vettel feliciteert opvolger Verstappen: "Hopelijk wint hij 16 races"

Max Verstappen veroverde afgelopen weekend het record van de meeste Grand Prix-zeges in één seizoen. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur won in Mexico zijn veertiende Grand Prix van het jaar. Hiermee verbrak hij het record van onder andere Sebastian Vettel, de Duitser is blij voor Verstappen.

Verstappen verbrak in Mexico het record van Sebastian Vettel en Michael Schumacher. Beide Duitse racelegendes wonnen dertien races in één seizoen. In Austin kregen ze dus gezelschap van Verstappen waarna de Nederlander een week later met het record naar huis ging. Niemand koestert echter wrok tegen de nieuwe recordhouder, ook de voormalige recordhouder niet.

Teleurstellend

Vettel won in 2013 dertien Grands Prix in dienst van Red Bull Racing. De huidig Aston Martin-coureur is trots op Verstappen en laat aan Autosport weten dat hij het niet erg vindt dat hij het record kwijt is: "Nee, het is elke keer anders. Ik denk dat het fantastisch is voor het team, ik ken daar nog steeds veel mensen en ik ben dus blij voor hen en Max. Ik denk dat hij een prachtig seizoen meemaakt. Hopelijk sluit hij het jaar af met zestien zeges, anders zou het een beetje teleurstellend zijn."

Momentum

Vettel is enorm onder de indruk van de huidige prestaties van Verstappen en Red Bull. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen weet dat het lastig is om zo'n niveau vast te houden: "Nee, dat is het niet. Ik denk dat ze het momentum van vorig jaar hebben vastgehouden, die auto is geweldig dit jaar. Ze wonnen races terwijl de auto zwaarder was dan de rest. Ik denk dat ze nu dat gewicht wel kwijt zijn. Ze hebben die auto maar Max heeft het ook geweldig gedaan."

  Ik begrijp dat gez**k ook niet. toen Vettel alles won en Hamilton ook dominant was was het altijd: oh hij is zo goed en dit en dat, en even voor de goede orde: dat zijn zijn/waren ze ook, maar je hebt wel gewoon de juiste wagen nodig.

  Volgens mij laat je geheugen je in de steek, bij dominantie krijgt de rijder in kwestie altijd wat minder credits omdat het materiaal dan de doorslaggevende factor is, en terecht overigens.
  Dat was bij Vettel ook zo, en bij Lewis hoeven we helemaal niet zo ver terug voor de commentaren dat het aan de dominante wagen ligt. Als Max de overwinningen aan elkaar blijft rijgen dan raken mensen daar ook minder van onder de indruk, logisch.

  sterker nog, van Seb werd gezegd dat hij alleen in een Newey wagen kon winnen, helemaal na zijn overstap naar Ferrari, en het uitblijven daar van grote successen, werd alles met terugwerkende kracht aan de Red Bull toegeschreven

  ik ook, ik hou wel van zo'n onverzorgde look, ik laat mijn haar al groeien, ik was het nog maar 1x in de week zodat het er net zo vettig uitziet als Seb's haar, nog even en ik loop ook met een elastiekje, thuisfront is nog niet direct heel enthousiast, maar ik zet door!

Correct me if I’m wrong maar Vettel stapte in bij een team wat op weg was een kampieonsauto te bouwen. Hamilton stapte in bij een team dat een hybride raketmotor had gebouwd. Verstappen stapte in bij een verroeste chassis met Newey in midlife crisis en een crappy Renault motor die nog steeds de geest geeft tot huilens aan toe bij Alonso. VER volgt een ander pad en het is veel indrukwekkender dan simpelweg in de snelste wagen stappen. Het is de snelste zijn en dat kunnen er maar heeeeel weinig.
