Albon heeft veel respect voor Verstappen: "Hij verkeert nu in topvorm"

Max Verstappen verbreekt dit seizoen record na record. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur pakte afgelopen weekend in Mexico weer twee records en in Japan veroverde hij al de wereldtitel. Verstappens collega's staan erbij en kijken ernaar. Alexander Albon is in ieder geval lovend over zijn voormalige teamgenoot.

Verstappen pakte afgelopen weekend in Mexico het record van de meeste Grand Prix-zeges in één seizoen en het record van de meeste WK-punten in één seizoen. Het waren enkele edelstenen in de kroon van Verstappens huidige seizoen. De Nederlander heeft immers ook al de wereldtitel op zak en twee weken geleden in Austin schonk hij zijn team de constructeurstitel.

Respect

De prestaties van Verstappen maken ook veel indruk op andere coureurs. Huidig Williams-coureur en Verstappens voormalige teamgenoot Alexander Albon is tevens onder de indruk. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt de Thai zich uit: "Ik denk dat hij daar heel erg veel respect voor verdient. Hij is ook nog eens relatief jong. Hij heeft echter al veel ervaring en je ziet het vertrouwen dat hij in zichzelf heeft."

Kwalificatie

Verstappen staat nu op veertien zeges in het huidige seizoen. Met nog twee races te gaan kan hij het record alleen maar aanscherpen. Albon verwacht dat dit gaat gebeuren: "Hij verkeert nu in topvorm. Kijk bijvoorbeeld naar zijn ronde in de kwalificatie, dat was een enorm goede ronde. Als je naar de onboards kijkt, het was een net rondje en hij is dus echt in topvorm. Dan zijn er nog twee races te gaan. Ik denk dat hij gewoon door blijft gaan."

Niet verbaasd dat record Schumacher uit de boeken is

Verstappen heeft het oude record van Schumacher en Vettel dus officieel uit de boeken gereden, al dient daarbij aangetekend te worden dat er in 2004 en 2013 respectievelijk 18 en 19 races werden gereden.
Anno 2022 bestaat de kalender uit 22 races, dus Mick Schumacher is niet verbaasd dat zijn vader het record nu kwijt is. Ook denkt hij dat het record in de toekomst nog aangescherpt kan worden zodra de kalender verder groeit.
"We vergelijken een seizoen met 22 races met een seizoen met enkele races minder, dus dat record zou er hoe dan ook eens aan gaan zodra we meer races per seizoen gaan rijden.
Ik weet dus zeker dat het er mogelijk weer anders uitziet als we straks 25 races per jaar rijden", concludeert de Haas-coureur.

  Het eerlijkere record is te berekenen door met percentages te werken. Michael Schumacher won 13 uit 18 races, ofwel 72,2%. Als Max er nog twee wint dit jaar dan heeft ie 16 uit 22 gewonnen, ofwel 72,7%. En gaat ie voorbij aan Schumi. Al haalt ie Ascari met 6 uit 8 en dus 75% dit seizoen zeker niet meer in.   Ook naar procenten kijken is niet eerlijk, puur statistisch gezien.
  Je verliest namelijk veel meer procent als je 1 van de 8 races niet wint dan als je 1 van de 22 races niet wint. Statistieken zijn niet helemaal eerlijk. Wel leuk om mee te goochelen, maar nooit helemaal eerlijk.

  Met als toevoeging @Running dat als je het nog serieuzer wilt nemen wat zo'n record waard is, je per raceweekend moet gaan kijken hoe een GP-zege tot stand is gekomen en daar bijvoorbeeld een aantal sterren aanhangen. Een monnikenwerk...

Mee eens verder, maar heb dan ook de vraag voor mezelf: Hoe kun je bepalen of je in topvorm bent als je geen gelijke concurrent naast je hebt? In dat opzicht kun je het nooit weten namelijk.
