Verstappen kijkt uit naar racen op historisch Interlagos: "Houd ik van"

Max Verstappen gaat dit weekend in Brazilië op jacht naar zijn vijftiende Grand Prix-zege van het seizoen. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur kijkt uit naar het weekend op het circuit van Interlagos. Tevens wil hij er met zijn team voor zorgen dat teammaat Sergio Perez de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap kan claimen.

Verstappen krijgt in Brazilië de kans om zijn derde sprintzege van het seizoen te pakken. Eerder wist de regerend wereldkampioen ook al te winnen in de sprints op Imola en de Red Bull Ring. Hij zal dus alles op alles gaan zetten om Sao Paulo te verlaten met een zo goed mogelijk resultaat. Hij steekt die ambitie ook niet onder stoelen of banken.

Cultuur

Verstappen is dol op het circuit van Interlagos en kijkt tevens uit naar de cultuur van het land. In het land van zijn schoonfamilie wil hij presteren en spreekt hij zich uit bij Verstappen.com: "Het is altijd fijn om weer in Brazilië te zijn. Het is hier prachtig en het land heeft een rijke cultuur. Interlagos is een kort circuit, met alle hoogteverschillen en kombochten is het een gave baan om te rijden. Het is ook een circuit met historie, daar houd ik van."

Sprintrace

De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur weet dat hij veel concentratie nodig heeft in dit weekend. Aangezien er weer wordt gewerkt met een sprintformat is er maar één training voor de kwalificatie: "Er is een sprintrace dit weekend en dat betekent dat we maar kort kunnen trainen. Dat maakt het altijd lastig om de auto te kunnen afstellen en perfect te kunnen krijgen in beperkte tijd. Als team willen we als eerste en tweede eindigen in het wereldkampioenschap. Het is belangrijk dat we ervoor zorgen dat Checo voor Charles blijft."

Brazilië is voor Max als partner van ouwe Kel eigenlijk ook gewoon een soort thuisrace. Naast Zandvoort, Spa, Oostenrijk, Stiermark, Silverstone en Japan natuurlijk ;)

  Verstappen heeft 4 geweldige races gereden in Brazlie.
  De eerste in 2016 was legendarisch.
  Die waar Ocon hem er af tikte en daarna met een beschadigde auto en banden alsnog in wist te lopen op Hamilton en de ander groten achter zich te houden was. Geweldig. Wat was hij toen goed die race. En van dat Ocon moment heeft hij geleerd. Zal niet meer gebeuren. Op bandenmanagement vernederde hij Hamilton die race. Hij moest er 5 rijders voor inhalen op de baan. Ook nog eens in snellere auto's. 1 van zijn aller beste races ooit voor mij.
  Een jaar later was er race lang gevecht met Hamilton. Laatste keer dat Hamilton succesvol hammertime hanteerde tegen Verstappen. Maar Verstappen zette dat op ongekende wijze recht. Vervolgens gaf hij zijn leidende positie op, maar won alsnog door de leiding bij de herstart te pakken.
  Vorigjaar was om twee redenen legendarisch. Hamilton reed in een turbokanon een foutloze race. Maar Verstappen wist hem 55 rondes of zo achter zich te houden.
  Je kan van al die 4 races zeggen dat zowel Hamilton als Verstappen extreem goed waren. Echter sprak bij mij Verstappen meer aan. Ik geef toe dat ik bevooroordeeld ben. Uiteraard.
  
  Ik kijk echt uit naar deze race. Zeker ook omdat Hamilton hier het verschil kan maken. De baan ligt ook hem. Hopelijk wordt het race nummer 5 waar de twee uitblinken.
