Red Bull-kopstuk ziet Verstappen juist als technisch zeer sterk

Eerder deze week ontstond er redelijk wat consternatie vanwege een aantal uitspraken van een vooraanstaande medewerker van het team van Red Bull Racing. Er werd namelijk gesteld dat Max Verstappen op technische gebied nog wat zwak is. Paul Monaghan heeft echter een compleet andere mening en ziet juist dat Verstappen op dit gebied heel sterk is.

Guillaume Rocquelin sprak zich eerder deze week uit in een Franse podcast. Rocquelin stelde dat Verstappen op het technische gebied nog wat te kort kwam. Hij stelde dat Verstappen nog ver achter ligt vergeleken met voormalig Red Bull-coureur Sebastian Vettel, Rocquelin werkte jarenlang samen met de Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen.

Jong mannetje

Volgens Red Bulls Chief Engineer Paul Monaghan liggen de zaakjes iets anders. Monaghan liet tijdens de teambazenpersconferentie op zaterdag weten dat Rocquelin verkeerd werd geciteerd. De Chief Engineer heeft duidelijk een andere mening: "Als jong mannetje heeft hij hier onder leiding van zijn vader ontzettend veel werk ingestoken. Je kan dat nu goed zien. Hij weet waar hij het over heeft als het om de auto gaat. Hij weet goed wat hij wil. Zijn engineers weten hem een auto te geven die goed in balans is en dan ook makkelijk te besturen is."

Banden

Monaghan ziet dat Verstappen technisch dus juist zeer sterk is. De Chief Engineer denkt dat Verstappen ook op een ander belangrijk punt zeer sterk weet te presteren. Hij legt het uit: "Max kan daarnaast ook heel goed omgaan met de banden en hij houdt de situatie altijd onder controle. Hij heeft bizarre resultaten neergezet in zijn seizoenen bij ons. Hij zou dat niet hebben kunnen den als hij geen exceptionele coureur was."

    Toch is het wel opvallend dat tijdens de sprintraces weekenden waar je amper een FP hebt RedBull het steeds niet voor elkaar heeft. Het zal ongetwijfeld een combinatie van factoren zijn maar in 1x een goede auto neerzetten blijkt toch lastig voor RB en Verstappen.

      Volgens mij was er niet heel veel mis met de pace van Perez. Hij was sneller dan de Ferrari's en sneller dan Max. Zijn startplek zat alleen niet mee.

      Volgens mij heeft Verstappen 4 vd 6 sprintraces gewonnen en is ie 2x 2e geworden. Alleen in Oostenrijk was de auto in de hoofdrace niet goed.

      Het lijkt er ook op dat RRB de auto nog niet goed genoeg kent, want ze hebben iedere keer FP1 en FP2 nodig om de auto op de 'sweet spot' te zetten. In Oostenrijk en nu in Brazilië hebben ze de VT2 niet en dan is de RBR een banden vreter.

      Dit is wel de eerste keer dit jaar dat Perez sneller was dan Verstappen. Dat zie je nooit. Ook klaagde Verstappen vanaf het begin over onderstuur. Soms ga je de verkeerde kant op met de set-up en met een FP2 is dat geen probleem. Nu moet je het uitzitten en het beste ervan maken. Wellicht overwegen ze een pitlane start na een nachtje simmen en rekenen, en een nieuwe motor die ze openschroeven net als Lewis vorig jaar hier. Wat heb je te verliezen?

    Ik weet nog wel dat toen men met Pirelli ging rijden dat Vettel de enige coureur die vantevoren een bezoek bracht aan de fabriek toendertijd.
    Dit zegt niks over technisch inzicht maar geeft wel aan dat Vettel toendertijd alle informatie tot zich wilde nemen en niks aan het toeval overliet. Al vind ik Vettel wel een coureur die met een bepaald type wagen overweg kan, waar Max completer is.

      Max heeft ook al aangegeven dat hij Pirelli wil helpen door te testen. is gewoon slim.

      Maxiaans, wilde met dit voorbeeld meer aangeven dat Max meer vertrouwt op zijn rauwe snelheid en talent terwijl Vettel (in zijn hoogtijdagen) meer van de details was.

      Nee, want als je er verstand van had gehad, weet je die auto's geen Carburators hebben, aangezien ze rijden ze op Hooi, hoe anders geef je al die paarden kracht, weet elk kind toch. En willen ze sneller drukken op Doe Ros Suikerklontje, gaan ze gelijk iets sneller.

    Ik heb een vermoeden. Vettel ging altijd tot in het kleinste detail. Verstappen richt zich tot de belangrijkste zaken.
    Welke meer technisch inzicht vereist laat ik in het midden, maar het kan wel verklaren waarom beiden een andere indruk hebben.
