Binotto niet verrast door snelheid Mercedessen

Het team van Mercedes gaat vandaag in Brazilië op jacht naar hun eerste zege van het seizoen. De Duitse renstal start met George Russell en Lewis Hamilton op de eerste startrij in Sao Paulo. Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto is alles behalve verrast door het plotselinge succes van de Duitse renstal.

Mercedes is bezig met een lastig seizoen. De Duitse renstal kon de teams van Ferrari en Red Bull Racing in eerste instantie maar lastig bijhouden en kwam tevens veel performance tekort. In Austin introduceerde men een nieuwe update en sindsdien doen Hamilton en Russell weer mee in de strijd om de hoogste posities.

Geen verrassing

In de sprint van gisteren werd dan al helemaal duidelijk. Russell snelde naar de sprintzege en Lewis Hamilton werd derde. Door de motorstraf van Carlos Sainz mag Hamilton zelfs als tweede starten. Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto laat zijn licht over de situatie schijnen bij Sky Italia: "Mercedes is heel erg sterk. Dat is geen verrassing omdat wij ons al focussen op de ontwikkeling van de auto voor 2023 terwijl men bij Mercedes in Austin en Mexico met updates kwam."

2023

Binotto kijkt dan ook vooral vooruit naar het aankomende seizoen. Bij Ferrari werkt men dus al aan de auto voor 2023 en bij Mercedes wil men vooral voortborduren op de recente successen. Red Bull zal eveneens weer meestrijden en Binotto heeft dan ook een voorspelling voor het komende jaar klaarliggen: "Ik denk dat het volgend seizoen geen strijd tussen twee teams gaat worden in het wereldkampioenschap."

  Verkoos ik Maranello te blijven om zich te focussen op de wagen van volgend jaar.
  
  Intrinsiek niets mis mee, maar gezien de vorm van het team zou je denken dat de ‘kapitein’ dichtbij zijn matrozen wil zijn.
  
  Eigenlijk is het een goede persiflage van het gemis van een type a la Lauda of Marko om de boel wat aan te scherpen. Maar Todt mocht niet komen van Elkann…gemiste kans…
