Beoogd Williams-coureur Sargeant rijdt mogelijk test voor Alpine

Logan Sargeant veroverde afgelopen weekend in Abu Dhabi een superlicentie. De Amerikaan kan daarmee een zitje bij het team van Williams niet meer mislopen. De Britse renstal wil Sargeant zo goed mogelijk voorbereiden op een debuut, ze gaan zelfs zover dat ze hem meters willen laten maken bij een ander team.

Het team van Alpine voerde eerder dit jaar namelijk al een paar tests uit met een 2021-wagen. Het lijkt erop dat de Franse renstal dit in de aankomende maanden ook weer van plan is. Opvallend genoeg komt Sargeant in aanmerking voor zo'n test, eerder reden ook onder andere Nyck de Vries en Antonio Giovinazzi een soortgelijke test.

Alpine-teambaas Otmar Szafnauer geeft aan dat men hier geen problemen mee heeft. Szafnauer is er eerlijk over en spreekt zich uit bij Motorsport.com: "Wij zouden er geen bezwaar tegen hebben om hem in een van onze oude auto's te zetten. Williams toonde zich behulpzaam naar ons met Piastri en het zou Logan enorm helpen als hij kan rijden in een F1-auto. Het is dan wel een oudere auto maar het komt in de buurt. Als ze dat willen, dan willen wij ernaar kijken."
