Alonso verheugd met nieuwe werkgever Aston Martin

Formule 1-veteraan Fernando Alonso heeft de overstap gemaakt van Alpine naar Aston Martin. Na de laatste Grand Prix van het 2022-seizoen verreden te hebben in dienst van Alpine, heeft de tweevoudig wereldkampioen zich meteen comfortabel gemaakt in zijn nieuwe thuisbasis in de koningsklasse. Na eerder op de dinsdag in een ongestickerde AMR22 te hebben gereden, laat Alonso weten in zijn nopjes te zijn met zijn nieuwe team.

Fernando Alonso straalt een positieve energie uit, maar tempert enigszins zijn verwachtingen. "Ik kan niet teveel vertrouwen hebben want volgend jaar zal alles veranderen", vertelt Alonso over de AMR22-auto terwijl hij tegelijkertijd hint naar een nieuwe stap in filosofie wat betreft de ontwikkeling van de bolide. "Ik zie dat er veel potentie en talent in het team zit, het gevoel dat ik in de garage had was heel positief. Ik ben heel erg blij", zegt Alonso tegenover Motorsportweek.

Aston Martin eindigde dit seizoen als zevende in het constructeursklassement, ogenschijnlijk een stap achteruit in vergelijking met zijn nu voormalig-werkgever Alpine. Alonso houdt de lange termijn voor ogen en zegt de Aston Martin van dit jaar tijdens de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi goed bekeken te hebben: "Ze hadden overduidelijk een sterk weekend hier. (in Abu Dhabi) Sebastian Vettel kwalificeerde zich voor mij dus ik wist dat er niet veel verschil zou zitten tussen Aston Martin en Alpine. Ik merkte dat het een competitieve auto was", sluit Alonso af.

De wagen ziet er bijzonder mooi uit zo zonder enige sponsor. Ben benieuwd wat Alonso kan doen in de Aston Martin volgend jaar. Aan inzet en motivatie geen gebrek bij de Spanjaard.

  kan niet veel rotter dan afgelopen jaar en als Alpine kampioen wordt kijk ik uit naar het seizoen. Dat wordt dan interessant.

  Ik vraag mij dat af. Ik heb niet dat gevoel als ik de reacties van voormalige werkgevers hoor. Ik denk dat dit weer een voorbeeld is van een opmerking die zo vaak herhaald wordt dat niemand meer weet door wie dit ooit als eerste is gemeld. Mijn vermoeden: een niemand.

  Ik hoorde ergens anders het gerucht dat Alpine Alonso bewust heeft laten uitvallen de laatste race om Ocon vol te tanken met zelfvertrouwen doordat die daardoor dus boven Alonso is geëindigd in het kampioenschap. Ocon moet in 2023 de overhand hebben op Gasly anders kan hij fluiten naar een contractverlenging. Dat gaat een leuke strijd worden daar!
