Horner grapt over Verstappen: "Zijn gewicht begon op te lopen"

Max Verstappen domineerde dit seizoen de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur won in totaal vijftien Grands Prix en prolongeerde al in Japan zijn wereldtitel. Volgens zijn teambaas Christian Horner liet Verstappen de teugels vieren na het binnenslepen van zijn wereldtitel.

Verstappen kende een lastige start van het seizoen, in twee van de eerste drie Grands Prix viel hij uit. Daarna ging alles naar wens en stond Verstappen in vrijwel elke race op het podium. Tegen het eind van het seizoen had Verstappen de wereldtitel binnen en moest hij tevens de degens kruisen met Mercedes en het team van Ferrari.

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner geeft aan dat Verstappen in de laatste maanden van het seizoen de teugels wat liet vieren. Bij een Red Bull-evenement spreekt Horner zich met een lach uit: "Toen Max de wereldtitel en de constructeurstitel al had gewonnen, toen zagen we dat zijn gewicht langzamerhand begon op te lopen door alle bezoekjes aan de steakhouses in Amerika en de taquerias in Brazilië. Ik weet echter gewoon zeker dat hij weer op gewicht is tegen de tijd dat hij in februari weer in de auto moet springen."
