Leclerc zou komst van Vasseur als nieuwe Ferrari-teambaas verwelkomen

Eind november kondigde Binotto aan dat hij uit eigen beweging stopt als teambaas van Ferrari. Het betekent een openstaande positie als teamleider waar voornamelijk huidig Alfa Romeo-baas Frederic Vasseur voor getipt wordt. Ferrari-coureur Charles Leclerc meent de komst van Vasseur te verwelkomen, mocht de Fransman daadwerkelijk de overstap naar de Scuderia te gaan maken.

Het bleek een lastig jaar voor het Formule 1-team van Ferrari. Tijdens de eerste seizoenshelft wist de Italiaanse renstal geregeld nog het gevecht aan te kunnen gaan met concurrent Red Bull. Echter betekenden fouten op bijvoorbeeld strategisch vlak dat de titelkansen voor de Scuderia gedurende het seizoen steeds kleiner werden. Dankzij de tekortkomingen van Ferrari kwam diens teambaas Mattia Binotto onder steeds meer druk te komen te staan, met als uiteindelijke gevolg de aankondiging dat hij per afsluiting van het 2022-seizoen zijn taken als teamleider bij zich neerlegt.

De ruimte die door de verlatende Binotto is achtergelaten, zal naar alle waarschijnlijkheid snel worden opgevuld. Het team vaart ondertussen stuurloos door richting een nieuw Formule 1-seizoen in 2023. Ondertussen wordt de naam van Alfa Romeo-teambaas Frederic Vasseur als potentiële nieuwe kapitein genoemd. Ferrari-coureur Charles Leclerc laat weten dat zijn ervaringen met Vasseur uitermate positief waren.

"Ik heb al vanaf de junior categorieën met Fred (Vasseur) samengewerkt. Hij heeft altijd in mij gelooft en we hebben een goede relatie. Hij was altijd rechtdoorzee en heel eerlijk. Dit heb ik altijd aan hem gewaardeerd. Ik weet niet of hij daadwerkelijk wordt gekozen. Hopelijk zien we in de komende maanden wie het wordt."

Als hij deze bij zich neerlegt, dan kan Vasseur daar sowieso niet bij....

Elders is te lezen dat Vasseur al tijdens de zomerstop een voorcontract heeft getekend. Het wachten was op het ontslag van Binotto of dat hij zelf ontslag zou nemen.
Elkan was niet echt pro Vasseur, maar kon geen geschikte(re) kandidaat vinden.
