Brown stuurt vertrekkende Seidl niet op gardening leave

Gisteren werd bekend dat Andreas Seidl het team van McLaren gaat verlaten. De Duister wordt in januari de nieuwe CEO van de Sauber Group, het huidige team rijdt momenteel nog rond als Alfa Romeo. Seidl gaat direct aan de slag bij Sauber en McLaren benadrukt dat ze hem niet op gardening leave sturen.

Seidl speelde gisteren een hoofdrol in de transfercarrousel van de teambazen in de Formule 1. De Duitser trok naar Alfa Romeo terwijl Alfa-teambaas Frédéric Vasseur op zijn beurt vertrok naar Ferrari. Seidl wordt CEO en is dus niet de directe opvolger van Vasseur. Seidl werd op zijn beurt opgevolgd bij McLaren door Andrea Stella.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown laat weten dat zijn relatie met Seidl nog zeer goed is. De Amerikaan heeft er dan ook voorgezorgd dat Seidl niet te maken krijgt met gardening leave. Het is een opvallende keuze en Brown laat aan de internationale media weten dat dit logisch is: "Onze relatie is heel erg goed. Ik weet dat er veel teams zijn die de kaart van gardening leave trekken. Bij McLaren proberen we te zoeken, of het nou om teams of coureurs gaat, naar voorwaarden die voor iedereen prettig zijn. We hebben dat eerder laten zien."

    Maar ik las dat Vasseur ook direct per januari begint bij Ferrari, dus ook die hoeft niet te tuinieren.

    Wellicht is het afhankelijk van de mate waarin de teams concurrenten van elkaar zijn.
    Ik kan me voorstellen dat Ferrari niet zo schappelijk zou zijn als Binotto naar Red Bull zou vertrekken.

    Maar Alfa Romeo is geen concurrent van Ferrari en eigenlijk ook niet van McLaren. Althans, niet qua ambities. Dus een directe overgang hoeft voor hen geen probleem te zijn. Plus dat Seidl de CEO wordt en het nog niet duidelijk is wie de teambaas van het F1 team van Sauber/Audi gaat worden. Gaat Seidl dat ook zelf doen, of wordt daarvoor iemand anders aangetrokken, zoals Capito bijvoorbeeld?

      Binotto is ontslagen toch? In hoeverre kunnen ze hem dan verplichten niet ergens te gaan werken?

      Ik vraag me trouwens af of dit de eerste aanzet word van Audi motoren voor McLaren in de toekomst

      Ik denk niet dat ze nog veel kunnen eisen als ze je eerst ontslaan, als je zelf weg gaat misschien wel.

      Binotto is zelf weggegaan omdat het bestuur van Ferrari geen vertrouwen in hem had.

      De McLaren van dit jaar was een draak van een auto dus daar kan Seidl weinig mee. Sauber rijdt met een Ferrari torretje en heeft niets aan de info over het Mercedes torretje. Een tijdje tuinieren heeft dus weinig nut en misschien heeft McLaren inderdaad ook wel interesse in een Audi torretje, al is dat nog wel wat voorbarig.
