Norris wenst Seidl veel succes in nieuw hoofdstuk bij Sauber

Andreas Seidl zal de overstap maken van McLaren naar de Sauber Group. Seidl, die in zijn periode als teambaas van McLaren een basis heeft neergezet waarop voort gebouwd kan worden, zal een nieuw hoofdstuk gaan schrijven bij zijn voormalige werkgever Sauber. De Duitser zal in zijn nieuwe rol als CEO het F1-team gaan klaarstomen voor de komst van Audi als motorpartner in 2026. McLaren-coureur Lando Norris bedankt Seidl via social media.

In 2019 maakte Lando Norris zijn officiële F1-debuut bij het team van McLaren. In datzelfde jaar, een aantal maanden na Norris’ debuut, verscheen een man genaamd Andreas Seidl. De ingenieur van oorsprong maakte de overstap vanuit het LMP1 team van Porsche en zou hiermee, samen met McLaren CEO Zak Brown, hard aan de winkel moeten werken om de vergane glorie van het team te kunnen herstellen.

Nu bijna drie jaar later, heeft het team hier en daar vlagen van haar kunnen laten zien met onder andere een Grand Prix-overwinning in 2021 op Monza. Echter lijkt het team nog steeds te worstelen om op constante basis competitief te zijn. In het 2022-seizoen verloor McLaren immers het onderlinge duel met concurrent Alpine om de vierde plek in het constructeursklassement. Maar met de komst van F2-kampioen Oscar Piastri en de gereedheid van de nieuwe windtunnel in zicht, lijkt het team van McLaren een goede basis te hebben voor toekomstsucces.

Via zijn persoonlijke Twitterpagina dankt Lando Norris voor Seidl’s verrichte werkzaamheden voor McLaren: "Vaarwel Andreas! Het was geweldig om de afgelopen paar jaren met je te hebben gewerkt. Ik heb ons team nog nooit zo sterk gezien als nu en dat is gedeeltelijk aan jou te danken. Heel veel succes bij je nieuwe baan vriend, ik weet zeker dat ik je (in de F1-paddock) zal zien rondlopen."
