Wolff maakte zich niet druk op politiek spel: "Business as usual"

Het afgelopen Formule 1-seizoen barstte weer van de politiek relletjes. Er was veel te doen omtrent bijvoorbeeld de nieuwe wedstrijdleiders, de porpoising-oplossingen en ook de budgetcap-straf voor Red Bull Racing. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff haalt zijn schouders op over de zaken en ziet het inmiddels als business as usual.

Het team van Mercedes kende dit jaar op sportief gebied een tegenvallend seizoen. Naast de baan was de Duitse renstal echter zeer mondig. Mercedes had bijvoorbeeld van last van porpoising en men drong er bij de FIA op aan om met maatregelen te komen tegen het gehobbel. Tevens reageerde men fel nadat duidelijk werd dat Red Bull Racing de budgetcap had overschreden in 2021.

Niet alleen Mercedes reageerde fel op politiek gebied, ook de andere teams waren zeer mondig. Volgens Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff hoort dit gewoon bij de sport. In gesprek met Motorsport.com spreekt Wolff zich uit: "Je wilt je eigen structuur beschermen, dat doen we allemaal. Het is zaak om bepaalde dingen voor te zijn of zelfs te beschermen en we proberen te voorspellen welke politieke kant het op gaat. Dat is normaal. Naar mijn mening waren er nu niet meer of minder politieke spelletjes. Iedereen leeft volgens zijn eigen normen, het was business as usual."

    Normen om trots op te zijn: konkelen, dreigen, beschaafde woede uitbarstingen, lijmen en slijmen etc.

      Je vergeet liegen. Voor begin 2022 seizoen. "Ik weet niet of Hamilton nog wel door gaat." Dit om Masi er uit te werken.
      Later meerdere keren van Wolff: "Altijd geweten dat Hamilton door zou gaan."

      Overigens is Wolff wel de grootmeester in de politiek naast de baan. Heeft hem haast nog het kampioenscahp gebracht voor Hamilton vorig jaar.
      Ik heb er verder geen waardeoordeel. Maar absoluut tegen de geest van Ronnie Peterson. Of een aantal andere rijders uit het verleden.

      Ik zat aan een andere rijder te denken die niet wilde winnen omdat hij dit oneerlijk vond ten opzichte van een andere rijder: Sterling Moss. Ben even alles vergeten rond dat verhaal. Was een brit die nooit wdc is geworden, maar wel degelijk een erg goede racer. Gentleman.

    En dan wordt vrouw Susie genoemd als opvolger van Jost bij Williams. Het kan nooit goed voor de sport zijn als 1 gezin zoveel macht heeft in de F1.

      Van mij mag het. Geen moeite mee. Wolff is gewoon politiek en strategiesch erg sterk. En wie weet hoeveel goeds het Williams zal brengen.
