Alonso wil niet stoppen: "Thuiszitten maakt mij bang"

Fernando Alonso is momenteel 41 jaar oud maar de Spanjaard denkt nog lang niet aan stoppen. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen tekende eerder dit jaar een contract voor de aankomende jaren bij Aston Martin. Alonso wil niet denken aan stoppen en geeft toe dat hij bang is voor het zwarte gat na zijn loopbaan.

Alonso keerde vorig jaar terug in de Formule 1 bij het team van Alpine. De Spaanse coureur kende een succesvol eerste comeback-seizoen en hoopte dit jaar mee te kunnen strijden voor de zeges. Niets bleek minder waar en Alonso kende veel pech. In de aankomende jaren zal hij dus uitkomen voor het team van Aston Martin.

Honderd procent geven

De tweevoudig wereldkampioen denkt dat de Formule 1-wereld voorlopig nog niet van hem af is. De Spaanse aanstaand Aston Martin-coureur spreekt zich uit bij Auto, Motor und Sport: "Zolang ik nog het gevoel heb dat ik honderd procent kan geven, dan is het nog zeker twee of drie jaar. Ik moet op mijn leeftijd de zaken nog wel anders aanpakken. Denk aan de training, het reizen en alles daar omheen. De Formule 1 neemt alles in beslag. Je moet het goed organiseren om niet op te branden."

Dakar Rally

Alonso is zich ervan bewust dat zijn loopbaan in de Formule 1 niet eeuwig zal duren. De Spanjaard maakt zich een beetje zorgen over het welbekende zwarte gat: "Ik ben al mijn hele leven coureur. Ik ben goed in deze sport, ook omdat ik niets anders heb geleerd. Tot nu toe bestaat mijn leven alleen maar uit racen. Als ik op een dag moet stoppen met de Formule 1, dan ga ik andere races doen. Winnen in de Dakar Rally is bijvoorbeeld weer een andere uitdaging. Thuiszitten maakt mij bang."
