Alonso wil frustrerend seizoen niet vergelijken met McLaren-Honda worsteling

Fernando Alonso stak dit jaar zijn frustratie over de slechte betrouwbaarheid van Alpine niet onder stoelen of banken. De Spanjaard viel regelmatig uit in kansrijke positie en dat kostte hem tientallen WK-punten. Alonso wil de situatie van afgelopen seizoen echter niet vergelijken met zijn worsteling met de Honda-motor bij McLaren.

Alonso liet dit jaar zien dat hij het kunstje nog zeker niet verleerd is. De Spaanse coureur was regelmatig zeer snel maar hij kon zijn goede races niet omzetten in punten. Meerdere keren kreeg de tweevoudig wereldkampioen namelijk te maken met betrouwbaarheidsproblemen. De situatie leek op de seizoenen waarin Alonso reed voor McLaren-Honda, daar viel hij veelvuldig uit met grote motorische problemen.

Alonso zelf vindt die vergelijking echter veel te ver gaan. De Spanjaard, die volgend jaar gaat rijden voor het team van Aston Martin, zag toen een nog slechtere situatie. Alonso is er dan ook eerlijk over en geeft in gesprek met Motorsport.com aan dat Alpine dit jaar veel competitiever was: "Ons gevoel was veel beter zodra we een race konden finishen. Met McLaren-Honda lagen we altijd buiten de punten dus dat valt helemaal niet te vergelijken."
