Marko kent Verstappens dromen: "Met zijn talent is hij ongetwijfeld snel"

Max Verstappen is momenteel nog actief in de Formule 1, maar de Nederlander steekt zijn ambitie om deel te nemen aan de 24 uur van Le Mans niet onder stoelen of banken. Bij Verstappens huidige werkgever Red Bull Racing zijn bekend met die ambities en Helmut Marko heeft Verstappen dan ook al de nodige literatuur gegeven.

Verstappen is momenteel de beste coureur in de Formule 1 en hij heeft in de afgelopen jaren al de nodige records verbroken. Afgelopen seizoen prolongeerde hij op vrij simpele wijze zijn wereldtitel en tekende hij al vroeg in het jaar een nieuw langdurig contract bij Red Bull. De kans is echter aanwezig dat hij na zijn Red Bull-contract vertrekt naar een andere klasse om zijn Le Mans-droom te verwezenlijken.

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko kent de ambities van zijn stercoureur. De Oostenrijker, zelf een Le Mans-winnaar, vertelt aan ServusTV dat hij Verstappen een passend cadeautje heeft gegeven: "Ik heb Max recent een boek gegeven over enduranceraces in de jaren '60. Het boek bevat trouwens ook heel veel mooie foto's. Hij was direct heel erg geïnteresseerd in het boek. Ik denk dat hij heel erg veel lol zou beleven aan de enduranceracerij. Met zijn snelheid en talent kan hij daar ongetwijfeld snel zijn. Hij kan dat doen zonder de druk van de Formule 1."
