Horner detailleert Ricciardo’s taken in Red Bull-reserverol

Daniel Ricciardo zal goed van 2023 gebruik maken om de batterij op te laden en klaar te maken voor een potentiële terugkomst naar de Formule 1 als fulltime coureur in 2024. Met zijn reserverol bij het voor hem vertrouwde team van Red Bull, krijgt Ricciardo de ruimte om zijn doelen te bewerkstelligen. Red Bull’s teambaas Christian Horner legt uit wat er van Ricciardo wordt verwacht, nu hij weer terug is bij z’n oude werkgever.

Daniel Ricciardo wist een slecht jaar in de Formule 1 enigszins te herstellen tot een jaar met een stabiele uitkomst. De achtvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar had immers opnieuw een tegenvallend seizoen terwijl hij voor het team van McLaren reed, maar wist uiteindelijk toch een voet binnen de deur bij de Formule 1 te houden door een contract voor een reserverol te tekenen bij zijn oude werkgever Red Bull, het F1-team dat hij in 2019 verliet in de hoop om het succes elders te vinden.

Tegenover Speedcafe vertelt Red Bull-teambaas over de gedachtegang rondom Ricciardo’s positie als vrije coureur en over de precieze taken die de Australiër te wachten staan. "Het was logisch voor ons om een coureur terug te halen die wij al hebben helpen groeien sinds hij nog een junior was. Daniel heeft een paar hele lastige seizoenen achter de rug, vooral afgelopen jaar. Om hem als reserverijder naar Red Bull terug te halen, en om hem aanwezig te hebben in de fabriek en bij evenementen, is heel logisch voor ons."

"Daniel zal een aantal races aanwezig zijn, waar hij logischerwijs als onze reservecoureur zal fungeren. Waarschijnlijk zal hij ook wat meewerken aan de bandentests van Pirelli, en werk in de simulator. Ook zal hij aanwezig zijn voor de commerciële werkzaamheden, voornamelijk in de Verenigde Staten, omdat hij daar een groot aantal fans heeft", vertelt Horner.

Liam Lawson, medereserverijder bij Red Bull, zal in 2023 deel gaan uitmaken van het Japanse Super Formule kampioenschap. Een aantal races op die kalender zal in hetzelfde weekend verreden worden als een aantal Grands Prix, waaronder die van Australië, Emilia Romagna (Imola,Italië), Canada en Mexico. Dit betekent dat Ricciardo naar alle waarschijnlijkheid bij deze races als reservecoureur van Red Bull klaar zal staan.

Ik las ook al dat Perez oude Manager Adrian Fernandez Perez al gewaarschuwd heeft dat hij er een stapje bij moet zetten en moet uitvinden wat Max anders doet dan hem

  @Steven, klopt maar dat is niet wat Red Bull wil. Zodra Perez de stijl en benadering van Max probeert over te nemen loopt hij net als Gasly vast en presteert hij juist minder. Perez kan volgens Marko beter accepteren dat hij 2e coureur is en dat zo goed mogelijk uitvoeren.
