'Red Bull-demorun bij 12-uursrace Bathurst wordt niet door Ricciardo verreden'

Vorige maand werd er door de organisatie achter de 12 uursrace van Bathurst aangekondigd dat het publiek tijdens het evenement op een heuse Red Bull-demorun getrakteerd zouden worden. Het bleek een uitgelezen kans voor Red Bull F1’s reserve- en promotionele coureur Daniel Ricciardo om notabene in zijn thuisland een mooie show aan de fans te kunnen geven. Helaas blijkt volgens website Speedcafe dat Ricciardo niet degene zal zijn die de RB7-bolide door het bochtige circuit van Mount Panorama mag manoeuvreren.

De 12-uursrace van Bathurst, dat in de eerste week van februari verreden zal worden, biedt altijd weer een flink spektakel voor de raceliefhebber.. Ook de 2023-editie van de Bathurst 12 uur belooft speciaal te worden. Vooraf werd er namelijk aangekondigd dat de Oostenrijkse F1-renstal Red Bull een RB7-bolide over zal laten komen om het publiek op een demorun te trakteren.

Toen het nieuws publiekelijk bekend werd, rees meteen de vraag (en de verwachting) dat Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull’s reserve- en promotionele rijder, de uitgekozen bestuurder van de RB7-wagen zou zijn. Volgens Speedcafe blijkt dit, helaas voor zijn vele fans, echter niet het geval. Volgens het racenieuwsplatform is Ricciardo namelijk niet in de gelegenheid om in het weekend van 3 tot 5 februari naar het circuit over te komen. De meest logische optie zou zijn om mede-reserverijder Liam Lawson voor de taak op te roepen. De Nieuw-Zeelandse coureur heeft immers dan geen verplichtingen vanuit zijn eigen raceklasse (Super Formula in Japan), waardoor de twintigjarige coureur naar alle waarschijnlijkheid de eer krijgt om de bloedsnelle RB7-auto door de bergen van Mount Panorama te besturen.

  Ze gaat echt steeds meer op haar vader lijken, vind ik.
  Ze heeft dan wel de ronde toet van haar moeder, maar haar hele gezichtsuitdrukking lijkt veel meer op die van Daniil.

  Zoon Formule 1-icoon voegt zich bij opleidingsprogramma Red Bull Racing
  
  Een bekende naam keert terug bij een Formule 1-team. Sebastian Montoya, de zoon van F1-legende Juan Pablo Montoya, voegt zich als junior bij het opleidingsprogramma van Red Bull Racing. Sebastian Montoya was al Red Bull-atleet, maar sluit zich nu ook aan bij de raceschool van de Oostenrijkers.
  
  Red Bull Racing-adviseur Helmut Marko liet zich onlangs in een interview met AMuS al ontvallen dat Sebastian Montoya naar de FIA Formule 3 zou promoveren, maar bij welk team moet nog bevestigd worden.
  
  De komende twee maanden racet de zoon van zevenvoudig Formule 1 Grand Prix-winnaar Juan Pablo Montoya in ieder geval voor de renstal van Hitech in het Formula Regional Middle East Championship.
  Afgelopen november werkte Montoya een F3-test af voor Hitech, samen met Gabriele Mini, die een van de F3-rijders van Hitech wordt in 2023.
  
  "Ik ben ontzettend blij om aan te kondigen dat ik vanaf heden deel uitmaak van het juniorenteam van Red Bull Racing", zegt Montoya op Instagram. "Afgelopen jaar werd ik onderdeel van de atleten van het merk en nu gaan we samenwerken voor dat het ultieme doel: F1."
  
  Montoya eindigde vorig jaar bij Prema als dertiende in het Formula Regional European Championship en werd zevende in het Formula Regional Asian Championship voor Mumbai Falcons India Racing.
  Daarnaast nam de 17-jarige coureur deel aan verschillende IMSA-races in de LMP2-categorie en kwam onder meer in actie met zijn vader. In 2021 werd Montoya vierde in de Italiaanse Formule 4 en negende in de ADAC F4, ook met Prema.
  
  Montoya is de derde coureur die onlangs is toegevoegd aan het talentenprogramma van Red Bull, naast Zane Maloney en Enzo Fittipaldi. Maloney, die in 2022 tweede werd in het FIA F3-kampioenschap, rijdt vanaf 2023 in de Formule 2.
  
  Fittipaldi gaat voor zijn tweede volledige F2-seizoen bij Carlin. Het drietal voegt zich bij de Red Bull-junioren Liam Lawson, Ayumu Iwasa, Jehan Daruvala, Dennis Hauger, Isack Hadjar, Jak Crawford en Jonny Edgar.
  
  Lawson vervolgt zijn loopbaan na zijn derde plek in F2 in de Super Formula in Japan.
  Iwasa blijft in de opstapklasse bij DAMS en gaat daar voor zijn tweede seizoen.
  Hauger verhuist van Prema naar het Nederlandse F2-team van MP Motorsport, terwijl Edgar van Trident naar MP Motorsport gaat in F3.
  Wat Hadjar en Crawford gaan doen staat nog niet vast, maar dat duo nam bij Hitech wel deel aan de F2-test in Abu Dhabi eind vorig jaar.
