Bottas ondergaat conditietest tijdens voorbereiding op F1-seizoen 2023

Inmiddels kan er wel gesteld worden dat Alfa Romeo-coureur Valtteri Bottas een heuse wielrenfanaat is. Samen met vriendin en prof wielrenster Tiffany Cromwell fietst de Fin vooral in de omvangrijke Australische natuurzones er heel wat kilometers bij op. In voorbereiding op het 2023-seizoen van de Formule 1, heeft Bottas inmiddels ook al een conditietest achter de rug; namelijk de Vo2 max-test.

De Formule 1 is een ware topsport. De twintig deelnemers van de snelste sport ter wereld worden een jaar lang op verschillende gebieden en vlakken tot het maximale getest. Het is dan ook van zeer belang voor een Formule 1-coureur om conditioneel tiptop in orde te zijn.

Terwijl de winterstop inmiddels halverwege is, zijn de Formule 1-rijders vast en zeker alweer aan het werk door hun personal trainers gezet. Ook het doorstaan van een maximale inspannings- of conditietest is van belang om te kunnen peilen hoe het er met de conditionele gezondheid voor staat. Bottas heeft in ieder geval al een VO2max-test achter de rug; de test is een maximale inspanningstest op een loopband of fietsergometer (Bottas’ voorkeur zonder twijfel), waarbij het volume en de samenstelling van de uitademingslucht wordt gemeten. Iets zegt ons dat Bottas naar alle waarschijnlijkheid de test met vlag en wimpel heeft doorstaan.
