Webber oneens met Mercedes-beweringen Verstappen: "Beleefd van Max"

Het team van Mercedes kende afgelopen jaar een lastig seizoen in de Formule 1. De Duitse renstal kwam veel performance tekort ten opzichte van de concurrentie en ze konden dan ook niet meestrijden om de zeges. Max Verstappen verwacht dat Mercedes aankomend seizoen weer sterk zal zijn, Mark Webber is het daar niet mee eens.

Mercedes wilde in 2022 sportieve revanche nemen nadat Verstappen in de seizoensfinale van 2021 op de valreep de wereldtitel pakte. De Duitse renstal kwam echter van een koude kermis thuis en eindigde als derde achter Red Bull Racing en Ferrari. Pas in de laatste Grands Prix van het seizoen kon Mercedes echt weer meestrijden om de zeges.

Beleefd

Ondanks het tegenvallende seizoen 2022 verwacht men wel veel van het aankomende seizoen. Max Verstappen verwacht dat Mercedes direct weer snel zal zijn. Oud-coureur Mark Webber laat aan Motorsport.com weten dat hij het iets anders ziet: "Ik vind dat vooral enorm beleefd van Max. Ik denk zelf dat Red Bull weer het aller gevaarlijkste team zal zijn aan het begin van het aankomende seizoen."

Formule 1 Plus

Webber zag dat Red Bull vorig seizoen zeer dominant was. De Australiër denkt dan ook dat vooral de concurrentie van de Oostenrijkse renstal een stap moet gaan zetten: "Alle anderen moeten zich op elk vlak gaan verbeteren. De betrouwbaarheid van Mercedes was goed, die van Ferrari weer wat minder. Red Bull had een goede betrouwbaarheid én was sterk op alle circuits. Voor Max was het vorig jaar soms een soort Formule 1 Plus. De Belgische Grand Prix was voor mij het hoogtepunt, kijk naar hoe hij daar door het veld sneed."
