Wolff bedankt vertrekkende Vowles: "Wordt een fantastische teambaas"

Het team van Mercedes moest gisteren afscheid nemen van een belangrijke pion. Gisteren werd namelijk duidelijk dat James Vowles het team gaat verlaten en dat hij de nieuwe teambaas van Williams wordt. Bij Mercedes is men Vowles vooral dankbaar en Toto Wolff spreekt dan ook positief over Vowles.

Vowles werkte al geruime tijd voor Mercedes maar wordt nu de opvolger van Jost Capito bij het team van Williams. De Brit fungeerde in de afgelopen jaren als Motorsport Strategy Director bij het team van Mercedes. Vowles was in die rol één van de gezichten van het team, hij verscheen regelmatig in video's van het team en stond vaak naast Wolff in de pitbox.

Getalenteerd

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff gaat Vowles missen bij het team van Mercedes. De Oostenrijkse teambaas bedankte Vowles in een persbericht: "Ik werkte met hem sinds ik bij het team kwam in 2013. Ik weet hoe ijverig, capabel en getalenteerd hij is. Ik heb ervan genoten om te zien hoe James in de afgelopen jaren is gegroeid. Sinds hij vorig jaar de pitwall verliet om een sterk strategisch team te bouwen, hebben we een zeer getalenteerd team rondlopen die het werk kunnen voortzetten."

Verdrietig

Ondanks het pijnlijke afscheid kan Wolff niets anders doen dan zijn nieuwe concullega Vowles te bedanken voor zijn werk. De Oostenrijker deelt nog meer complimenten uit: "Ik ben vanzelfsprekend verdrietig dat we zo'n geweldig teamlid moeten zien vertrekken. Ik ben er echter van overtuigd dat hij een fantastische teambaas gaat worden. We wensen hem heel erg veel succes bij Williams."

James was voor de zomer al ´off track´en in voorbereiding van opvolging Toto genoemd volgens the race. Meestal zijn die jongens wel goed ingelicht. Ik dacht dat ze dit al hadden besproken met Williams voor de zomer maar daar blijken ze pas de vraag in december te hebben geplaatst. Sterk dat ze zo snel een nieuwe TP hebben en Mercedes dit mogelijk maakt.

  Het is inderdaad hardstikke netjes van Wolff dat hij hem niet een jaar heeft veroordeeld tot tuinman. Ik verwacht wel dat Wolff anders zou hebben gehandeld als James bijvoorbeeld naar Red Bull of Ferrari zou zijn vertrokken. En dat is op zich logisch.

  Met Vasseur kan hij het ook heel goed vinden, met Binotto niet. Nyck zal ook wel tevreden zijn met de afhandeling evaluatie Schumacher EN zijn aanhang. In het racen zat het hem tegen maar politiek heeft hij intussen de meeste tentakels... komt ook niet vanzelf.

  Klopt, hoewel ik dat altijd een ´opgeklopt´ verhaal vond van haar. Ze had een interim job van 6mnd bij de FIA. Er zijn er die veel langer en nog steeds werken bij de FIA en zelf ook een verleden hadden bij een F1 team.
