Coulthard: Pérez moet op Ricciardo letten om Red Bull-stoeltje te behouden

Volgens Red Bull-ambassadeur David Coulthard zal Sergio Pérez een oogje in het zeil moeten houden op een potentiële dreiging: namelijk de recent aangetrokken reserverijder voor het team, Daniel Ricciardo. Volgens Coulthard zal Pérez z’n 'softwarepakket' moeten upgraden als hij zijn fulltime stoeltje bij de Oostenrijkse renstal wil behouden.

Naast de inmiddels tweevoudig wereldkampioen Max Verstappen aan zijn zijde kende ook Sergio Pérez een uitstekend 2022. Zijn team wist immers beide kampioenschappen te halen, terwijl de Mexicaan op zijn beurt twee Grand Prix-overwinning liet bijtekenen. Toch was er een groot onderling contrast in resultaten te zien tussen de twee: Verstappen wist immers vijftien overwinning te behalen en scoorde hiermee meteen zijn tweede achtereenvolgende wereldtitel. Volgens oud F1- en Red Bull-coureur David Coulthard zal Pérez 2023 moeten gebruiken om de verbetering in performance te vinden, wil hij een potentiële promotie van de recent teruggekeerde Daniel Ricciardo tegenhouden.

"Checo (Pérez) ziet dat er nu een reserverijder klaarstaat om hem te vervangen. Checo moet zijn software helemaal herschrijven. Het gaat hier niet om een paar nieuwe manieren om bochten aan te snijden, want er is een groot verschil tussen zijn resultaten en die van Verstappen. Hij heeft toegang tot de data van zijn teamgenoot. Hij kan zien waar het verschil te halen valt. Alle informatie staat klaar om zijn performance een stap omhoog te halen. Weet hij de data succesvol om te zetten, dan kan hij een kans hebben op de wereldtitel. Doet hij dat niet, dan zal er een andere coureur klaar staan."

    Er is nogal een stuk ruimte tussen wereldtitels en vervangen worden door de reserverijder.
    Perez moet Verstappen niet in de weg zitten, minister van defensie zijn als het nodig is, en niet al te ver weg van Verstappen zijn qua baanpositie.

      Mooi uitgangspunt maar er zijn er nog andere. Tussen Max en Checo zou het nog steeds niet 100% boteren of yutgekleerd zijn. Zo erg zelfs, dat Max er niks op tegen zou hebben Ricciardo in de box naast hem te hebben. Checo beseft dat maar al te goed en zal daardoor meer dan ooit tussen de lijnen lopen.

      @flexible, klinkt aannemelijk maar dat zou van Max best een beetje hypocriet zijn toch? Het leken altijd de beste vrienden maar op de momenten dat het echt ‘hot’ werd boterde het tussen hem en Daniël ook niet.
      Kan ook zo zijn dat hij daar gezien Daniël’s recente resultaten niet zo bang meer voor is 😋

      Er is natuurlijk veel gebeurd na Riccoardo zijn laaste passage bij RB. Redelijk overtuigd dat hij die nr2 rol nu wel graag neemt en Max dat weet. Niet vergeten dat zelfs de ma van Max op Twitter reageerde tov Checo. Zegt heel wat hoe diep het ingeworteld zit. Zoiets gaat niet na 1 gesprekje weg en werd meteen vanuit het team op gereageerd met Ricciardo als 3de piloot te nemen.

      Flexible wat een klets toch. Alsof Perez nog de illusie heeft kampioen te gaan worden laat staan het mogen worden... en Ricciardo zelf is geen schim meer van de coureur die in 2018 zn biezen pakte.

    Perez kans krijgen om mee te dingen voor het wk zie ik niet gebeuren, mooi voorbeeld in 2021. Daar is hij niet voor gehaald.
    In tegenstelling tot voorgaande jaren zie ik per niet meer met volle overtuiging in dienst rijden voor Max, zoals hij bv in abu dabi 2021 zonder enig eigen belang de veel snellere Lewis, ten kosten van alles, achter zich probeerde te houden.
    Zoiets zie ik hem niet meer doen, hij zal wel voor de buhne een poging wagen maar niet meer dan dat.
    Dat is wel jammer voor rbr en Max en totaal onnodige. Had de egoïstische Max een keertje wat terug had gedaan voor Perez dan was iedereen tevreden bij rbr.
    Ik ben benieuwd hoe dit gaat lopen en rbr heeft natuurlijk in ric een coureur die als eerdere teamgenoot van Max niet minder was en soms ook beter was,

      Perez had ook gedurende het seizoen meer puntjes kunnen halen zodat ie Verstappen niet eens nodig had voor die paar punten om 2e te worden in het WK.
