Steiner begrijpt Mercedes-stap van Schumacher

Mick Schumacher kreeg na afgelopen seizoen geen nieuw contract bij het team van Haas. De Duitser werd vervangen door zijn teamgenoot Nico Hülkenberg en tekende zelf een contract als derde coureur bij Mercedes. Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner vindt het een goede stap van de Duitser.

Schumacher presteerde afgelopen seizoen zeer wisselvallig bij het team van Haas. De Duitse coureur steeg op bepaalde momenten boven zichzelf uit, maar maakte tevens zeer veel fouten. In Saoedi-Arabië, Monaco en Japan schreef hij zijn wagen volledig af. Bij Haas besloot men hem dan ook geen nieuw contract te geven. Mercedes pakte vervolgens door en legde Schumacher vast als derde coureur.

De Vries

Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner had nog niet gereageerd op de transfer van zijn voormalige coureur. De Italiaanse teambaas laat aan RTL Duitsland weten dat hij blij is voor Schumacher: "Hij bevindt zich daar op een heel erg goede positie bij het team van Mercedes. Ze hebben ook nog eens heel erg veel zusterteams. Kijk naar hun vorige derde coureur, Nyck de Vries. Hij stapte vorig jaar in een Williams en heeft nu een AlphaTauri-zitje."

Goede plek

Steiner is van mening dat Schumacher nu ook een goede kans maakt op een comeback in de Formule 1. De teambaas van Haas gaat door met complimenten uitdelen: "Mick bevindt zich daardoor nu ook in een goede positie. Ik hoop voor geen enkele coureur dat hij een race moet missen, maar als er een kans is dan kan Mick rijden. Soms levert één stapje terug juist twee stappen voorwaarts op. Hij zit op een goede plek bij een team waar hij de grootste kans heeft op een zitje in de toekomst."

Ik had deze rol geaccepteerd als ik van Toto een mercedes kreeg om DTM mee te doen, of zelfs rallycross voor een jaar, maar een heel jaar simtesten? Nee dat gaat er bij mij niet in.

Je had zon spel F1 2006 ofzo... daarin kon je testen voor Super Aguri en Toro Rosso... daarna kreeg je contracten aangeboden. Als dat 3de coureur was begon ik t spel opnieuw.

  Hij blijft nu wel op de paddock en in de picture van de andere teams.
  Zodra je iets anders gaat doen, is de eventuele weg terug minder makkelijk denk ik.
  
  En misschien heeft Toto hem wel het zitje van Sir Lewis beloofd, als hij stopt.

  Stilstand is achteruitgang. Zeker voor rijders die zich nog moeten ontwikkelen. Daarbij is Schumacher niet eens de aller jongste.
  Schumacher heeft in 2 seizoenen ongeveer 9 miljoen aan schade gereden.
  Ik durf het wel. Niemand gaat Schumacher in dienst nemen zo.
  Door niet te racen wordt hij niet beter en zijn potentie wordt kleiner.

  Maar in het geval Schumacher heb je m.i. wel gelijk.
  Als hij niemand vindt met een grote zak met geld zien we Mick waarschijnlijk niet meer op de F1-grid staan.
  
  De persoon met die volle zak kan zijn geld beter in een nieuw Duits talent stoppen...

  Ten opzichte van de Vries kan Mick Schumacher geen vrije training rijden voor de verplichte rookie inzet. Daarnaast is de Vries een all-rounder die in bijna alle race klasses zijn kennis heeft. Maar het zou voor Schumacher niet verkeerd zijn om eens af en toe een andere race klasse mee te pikken.

Het komt bij mij toch over alsof hij zichzelf te goed vindt voor andere series terwijl Nyck daar juist wel voor koos en nu toch ook alsnog F1 rijdt.
Ocon zat ook een jaar naast Toto maar die schat ik toch hoger in dan Mick.

Mick zal echt niet gaan racen bij Mercedes, als daar al een plekje vrijkomt dan hoop ik dat Norris dat plekje pakt. Mits die goed blijft presteren want afgelopen seizoen vond ik 'm net als McLaren zelf, tegenvallen.
