Vasseur looft Binotto voor gegeven hulp tijdens transitiefase Ferrari

Voormalig Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto heeft complimenten ontvangen van zijn plaatsvervanger Frederic Vasseur. Binotto pakte immers niet per direct zijn biezen, eerder lijkt de ingenieur ervoor gekozen te hebben om nog even bij de Scuderia te blijven om de nieuwe teambaas te helpen tijdens de transitiefase van de Italiaanse Formule 1-renstal.

Het Formule 1-team van Ferrari leek in 2022 even voor het ultieme succes te kunnen gaan. Helaas vielen de dromen rondom de zomerstop van het afgelopen jaar in het water, waardoor de top van de Scuderia besloot om veranderingen in het team door te voeren. Toenmalig teambaas Mattia Binotto pakte zijn spullen, waardoor er plaats werd gemaakt voor Frederic Vasseur, de toenmalige topman van Alfa Romeo.

In gesprek met Italiaanse media vertelt Vasseur over de steun en support die hij van Binotto heeft gekregen, terwijl de Formule 1-renstal ondertussen van leiderschap wisselde. "Het proces was kristalhelder. Zelfs toen er tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend van Abu Dhabi geruchten door de pers al werden verspreid, hebben we ons stilgehouden. De eerste week na Abu Dhabi zijn we onze gesprekken begonnen. Het verliep ontzettend vloeiend en snel."

"Daarna heb ik met Mattia (Binotto) gebeld. Ook heb ik hem tijdens de transitiefase even gezien, waar we een één-op-één-gesprek hebben gehad. Ik waardeer Mattia’s beslissing om (voor even) te blijven, op mij te wachten, zodat we gesprekken konden voeren."

Ook meldt Vasseur dat hij al contact heeft gehad met voormalig FIA-president én Ferrari-teambaas Jean Todt, die vooral bekendstaat vanwege zijn aandeel in de uiterst succesvolle jaren van het Ferrari-Schumacher tijdperk. "We hebben elkaar al via Whatsapp een aantal weken geleden gesproken, en ik zal hem binnenkort spreken. Al het advies is welkom, al denk ik wel dat het heel lastig is om vandaag de dag de vergelijking te maken met de jaren '94, '95 en 2022", sluit Vasseur af.

De mens Binotto is gewoon een fatsoenlijke vent met een echt Ferrari hart. Hij is niet foutloos en had dingen beter kunnen doen maar hij is nu de man die alle klappen vangt terwijl de echte grote bazen geen wind vangen terwijl zij dat juist wel hadden moeten doen. Ik zie het op korte termijn dan ook niet goed komen. Eerst nieuw leiderschap aan de top, dan een goede teambaas aanstellen en dan top down de zaken perfectioneren.
