De Vries kent eigen zwakke punten: "Perfectionisme is ook mijn valkuil"

Nyck de Vries rijdt dit jaar voor het eerst een volledig seizoen in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse coureur gaat rijden voor het team van AlphaTauri en hij wil aankomend seizoen zo goed mogelijk voor de dag komen. De Vries weet wat zijn sterke punten zijn, maar hij waakt tevens voor zijn valkuilen.

De Vries debuteerde vorig seizoen in de Formule 1 bij het team van Williams in Monza. De invalbeurt in Italië van De Vries was zeker niet slecht en hij beloonde zichzelf direct met punten. Hij verdiende een contract bij AlphaTauri en in de afgelopen maanden trainde hij hard voor zijn debuut. Samen met zijn trainer Pyry Salmela ging hij op trainingskamp in het Emiraat Dubai.

Valkuil

De Vries verscheen samen met zijn trainer Salmela in de podcast van zijn team AlphaTauri. De Nederlandse coureur deelde daar zijn sterkste punten: "Commitment, vastberadenheid en perfectionisme zijn echt mijn grootste krachten. Daarnaast is dat laatste ook nog eens mijn grootste valkuil. Als je doorschiet daarin, dan verlies je je focus en raak je jezelf kwijt in de details. Je intuïtie, talent en gevoel raken dan helemaal verlamd omdat je te graag wil. Racen gaat nog steeds veel om je gevoel en intuïtie."

Vrij genoeg

Voor De Vries zijn zijn gevoel en zijn intuïtie zeer belangrijk. De Nederlandse coureur doet er alles aan om dat goed voor elkaar te krijgen. De Friese coureur vervolgt zijn betoog in de podcast: "Als je in de auto zit, dan moet je hoofd vrij genoeg zijn om met dat gevoel om te kunnen gaan. Als je te graag wil, de zaken overdrijft en te veel nadenkt, dan verlamt dat je gevoel en dat heeft weer invloed op je performance."

  Ik heb geen idee hoe overhyped hij wordt. Hij was vorig jaar wel goed bezig, maar hoe het een heel seizoen in de AT zal gaan kan ik niet voorspellen. Het kan zijn dat het tegenvalt, maar voor hetzelfde geld vragen we ons straks af waarom hij niet eerder de kans heeft gekregen.
