Alonso en Stroll, Hamilton en Russell doen Pirelli-bandentest op Jerez

De coureurs van zowel het Aston Martin- als het Mercedes Formule 1-team vliegen deze week af naar het Spaanse Jerez om voor de officiële bandenleverancier Pirelli het rubber van 2023 uit te testen. De Formule 1-rijders krijgen hiermee de kans om het winterstoptempo van zich af te schudden voordat het seizoen daadwerkelijk van start gaat.

Aston Martin-coureurs Fernando Alonso en Lance Stroll en Mercedes-piloten Lewis Hamilton en George Russell zijn in het Spaanse Jerez aangeland om namens Pirelli de banden voor het aankomende seizoen uit te testen. Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zullen de rondjes – elke coureur zal naar verwachting meer dan honderdmaal op het Circuito Permanente de Jerez rondrijden – in de auto’s van vorig jaar verreden worden.

Het blijkt voor de coureurs een uitgelezen kans om de tijdens de winterstop opgebouwde stofnesten weer te laten vervliegen, terwijl Alonso van de mogelijkheid gebruik maakt om te acclimatiseren aan zijn nieuwe team. Volgens het Spaanse mediaplatform Marca zal de test achter gesloten deuren plaatsvinden en zullen er geen officiële tijden publiekelijk bekendgemaakt worden, de tijdsresultaten worden namelijk alleen met Pirelli en de Formule 1 gedeeld.

Vooral voor Alonso is het circuit een bekende; de Spanjaard maakte op deze baan voor het eerst kennis met de karakteristieken van een Formule 1-wagen – namelijk een Minardi in 1999. Ook tijdens zijn jaren bij Renault, Ferrari en McLaren heeft de tweevoudig wereldkampioen inmiddels al meerdere duizenden kilometers op dit circuit laten noteren.
