Afgelopen weekend vond er in "Down Under" een waar motorsportfeest plaats. Op het bochtige Mount Panorama Circuit in Australië werd de 12 uursrace van Bathurst verreden. Om de autosportliefhebbers een extra traktatie aan te bieden, liet het Formule 1-team van Red Bull een RB7-bolide overkomen voor een uitgebreide demorun.

Het Formule 1-team van Red Bull staat bekend als hét team dat wel van een feestje houd. Naast vele spectaculaire stunts en promotionele acties, doet de Oostenrijkse renstal ook meerdere malen per jaar hier en daar een demorun. Ditmaal was het de beurt aan het legendarische Mount Panorama Circuit, waar het afgelopen weekend de 12 uur van Bathurst verreden werd.

De 2023-editie van de langeafstandsrace bleek dit jaar uitermate populair, want er werd een bezoekersrecord genoteerd. Ruim 53.000 man kozen een plekje in het gras of naast de baan om de endurancewagens met elkaar het gevecht aan te zien gaan. Naast de prestigieuze race werden de fans op een extra cadeau getrakteerd; het Formule 1-team van Red Bull liet namelijk een RB7-bolide overkomen voor een demorun op Mount Panorama.

Het was Red Bull reservecoureur- en junior Liam Lawson die de eer kreeg om de bloedsnelle bolide met de schreeuwende V8-motor door de bochtige bergen van Mount Panorama te manoeuvreren. Lawson reed eerst tweemaal in de rondte tijdens een verkenningstocht, deed vervolgens een aantal donuts voor de ogen van duizenden toeschouwers, en sloot af met een flying lap. Bekijk de beelden hieronder, maar zet je schrap: de beelden zijn voorzien van puur geluid, dus de krijsende V8-motor zul je door de bergen heen horen galmen. Volume omhoog dus.

A ha, dus toch niet het F1 record van Buttin verbeterd, dat was ook al erg onwaarschijnlijk.
Heroïsche track inderdaad, maar helaas niet geschikt voor de F1.

Gewoon lekker op blijven simmen. ;-)
