Chandhok verwacht veel van Vasseur: "Alles wijst erop dat hij de nieuwe Todt is"

Frédéric Vasseur staat aan de vooravond van zijn eerste seizoen als teambaas van Ferrari. De Fransman kwam over van het team van Alfa Romeo in de winter. De verwachtingen zijn hoog en oud-coureur Karun Chandhok denkt dat Ferrari een goede keuze heeft gemaakt, hij spreekt zelfs van een nieuwe Jean Todt.

Het team van Ferrari nam eind vorig jaar afscheid van Mattia Binotto. De Italiaan kende een seizoen met veel betrouwbaarheidsproblemen waarna hij vertrok. Vasseur gold als de topfavoriet voor deze vacature en hij werd dan ook losgeweekt bij Alfa Romeo. Hij ging in januari officieel aan de slag als teambaas en men verwacht dat de Fransman de boel weer op de rails gaat krijgen.

Ook oud-coureur Karun Chandhok gaat ervanuit dat Vasseur gaat slagen bij het team van Ferrari. De Indiër ziet overeenkomsten met de legendarische Ferrari-teambaas Jean Todt. In gesprek met Autosport Magazine spreekt Chandhok zich uit: "De teambaas van Ferrari heeft de job met de meeste druk in de Formule 1. Ik ken Fred nog uit de tijd dat hij in de GP2 werkte. Hij heeft een onverstoorbaar karakter en dat heeft hij nodig voor deze klus. Hij is dan ook een harde leermeester. Alles wijst erop dat hij de nieuwe Todt is, die beslissing pakte vrij goed uit voor het team."

      En wat te denken van de hoge bazen bij Ferrari? Krijgt hij card blanche of wordt hij tegengewerkt?

      Hij heeft bij mij niet al te veel indruk gemaakt over de periode dat hij bij Alfa Romeo zat. De wagen werd relatief slechter.

      Maar we gaan het zien.

      Zelf ben ik ivm de bazen vooral benieuwd of Leclerc volledig naar voren wordt geschoven. Ik kan dat praatje van die ceo niet vergeten. Leclerc dit, Leclerc dat. Toen Binotto later bubliekelijk ontkende dat er een nummer 1 was in het team begonnen de geruchten dat onder andere Seidl gepolst was voor een overstap.

      Ook zou Binotto graag zijn aero mensen hebben willen laten samenwerken met het Italiaanse ocean race team. Daar mocht niet in worden geinvesteerd.

      Ik denk dat Vasseur aan de leiband gaat.

      Carte blanche krijgt niemand bij Ferrari.
      Sterker nog, Vasseur heeft minder beslissingsbevoegdheid dan Binotto.
      Vasseur's functie heet officieel Team Principal en General manager of the Scuderia Ferrari, Binotto was Team Principal and Head of Sports Management, beter bekend als La Gestione Sportiva.
      Dat Binotto de Gestione naar eigen inzicht kon indelen is ze kennelijk niet goed bevallen, Vasseur zal meer moeten overleggen, wat natuurlijk niet nadelig hoeft te zijn.

      Let's wait and see.
      Maar de nieuwe Jean Todt vindt ik nogal wat, de periode Di Montezemolo, Todt, Brawn, Schumacher, Byrne en Barrichello was een perfect storm in positieve zin, dat herhaal je niet zomaar, alhoewel Red Bull met Newey en Vettel en daarna met Newey en Verstappen een aardige poging doet.

      @Mr.Monza: verder nog iets interessants uit Maranello te melden? Ben ook benieuwd naar personele wisselingen, alhoewel Vasseur terecht al meldde daar zijn tijd voor te gaan nemen.

    Hij zal wel de ruimte moeten krijgen om de bezem door het personeel te kunnen halen, alleen een nieuwe directeur is niet genoeg om de cultuur te veranderen.

    De kans om met Honda Sauber om te turnen in een modern fabrieksteam herkende hij niet noch de kans om Sauber überhaupt financieel gezond te maken en dus vielen ze bijna om en kreeg Andretti het bijna voor een schijntje in handen.
