Aston Martin rijdt eerste ronden met AMR23-auto op Silverstone

Ook het Formule 1-team van Aston Martin heeft een shakedown op de planning staan. Op circuit Silverstone mocht coureur Lance Stroll al de eerste verkenningstocht in de nieuwe AMR23-bolide maken. Of Stroll’s nieuwe teamgenoot Fernando Alonso óók vandaag de kans krijgt om aan de nieuwe wagen te wennen, is nog onduidelijk.

Het Formule 1-team van Aston Martin lanceerde eerder deze week haar auto voor 2023. Volgens teameigenaar Lawrence Stroll is het de bedoeling dat vanaf dit jaar het team elk opvolgend seizoen naar een versnelling omhoog moet schakelen. Met de komst van tweevoudig wereldkampioen Fernando Alonso heeft het team in elk geval een meer dan passende vervanger gevonden voor de onlangs gepensioneerde Sebastian Vettel.

De Britse renstal verkaste eerder vandaag van de fabriek naar een vochtig circuit Silverstone, dat iets verderop gelegen is. Coureur Lance Stroll kreeg niet geheel verrassend de eer om de AMR23-bolide als eerste uit te testen voor een shakedown. Het is vooralsnog onduidelijk of Stroll’s nieuwe teamgenoot Alonso de kans krijgt om in te stappen, of dat hij iets langer dan een week moet wachten tot de preseasontests in Bahrein van start zijn gegaan.

Ben benieuwd hoe Aston Martin het dit jaar gaat doen. Er is heel veel geïnvesteerd afgelopen tijd in personeel en faciliteiten etc. Maar of het team het nu een klap beter gaat doen?

Geluiden gaan al erg lang dat Laurence Stroll zich te veel bemoeid met de dagelijkse gang van zaken,
het team als een bedrijft runt i.p.v. een F1 team. En dat juist die benadering soms de sportieve vooruitgang dwars zit...

Misschien is het het beste voor het Aston Martin F1 team dat Laurence Stroll in ziet dat hij op dat vlak een stapje terug moet doen en een ervaren teambaas de boel moet laten runnen.

Zo deed Dieter Mateschitz het destijds ook, die zag in dat hij als eigenaar niet perse de beste teambaas zou zijn, en zette Marko neer als teambaas en Horner voor de dagelijkse leiding.
Zou wellicht geen slechte keuze zijn voor Aston Martin F1 om het ook zo te doen...
