Wolff plaatst W13 in de lobby: "Symbool voor de moedige beslissingen"

Het team van Mercedes gaat aankomend seizoen op jacht naar sportieve revanche. De Duitse renstal had vorig jaar een rampzalig seizoen en dit jaar moet alles anders zijn. Teambaas Toto Wolff wil er alles aan gaan doen om zijn team tot grote hoogte te pushen, hij plaats de tegenvallende wagen op een opvallende locatie.

De Mercedes W13 was vorig seizoen een zeer opvallende wagen. De zilvergrijze bolide had bijzondere sidepods, maar het bijzondere design bracht het team geen succes. Lewis Hamilton won voor het eerst in zijn loopbaan geen Grand Prix en pas in Brazilië schonk George Russell het team de eerste zege van 2022.

Symbool

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff was in eerste instantie van plan om de pechbolide te verstoppen in het hoofdkwartier van het merk Mercedes. De Oostenrijker heeft zijn mening nu verandert en legt dat uit bij Motorsport.com: "De auto komt bij ons in Brackley in de lobby te staan. Ik ben nu van gedachten veranderd, ik wilde hem in de lobby plaatsen als reminder dat we nooit op onze lauweren mogen rusten. Het is eigenlijk een symbool van de moedige beslissingen die we genomen hebben. We hebben vorig jaar een radicale beslissing genomen met het ontwerp van de W13. We durfden, maar we faalden."

Mindset

Wolff ziet het plaatsen van de W13 in de lobby van het hoofdkwartier van het team dus als een soort geheugensteuntje. De Oostenrijkse teambaas denkt dat dit voor nog veel meer symbool staat: "Wat mij betreft laat dit de mindset zien van deze renstal. Het laat zien hoe je kunt omgaan met succes en hoe je kunt omgaan met tegenslag. Ik wil niet dat wij conservatief worden of dat we saai worden, we moeten risico's nemen en moed tonen."

  Mercedes komt dichterbij maar dicht het gat niet. Ze hebben een grote stap gemaakt maar ook Red Bull heeft performance geboekt. Ferrari had een snelle auto voordat ze de motor moesten sparen en is dit jaar op de meeste circuit de grote concurrent voor Red Bull

Op R N 3 6 5 staat een foto van de W14, genomen naar achteren van het rear bodywork. Ziet er bijzonder uit en het lijkt dat de rug van het bodywork een airflow richting de diffuser stuurt.
Er zit zeker weten heel veel research in de W14 en ik ga er van uit dat de W13 een negatieve uitschieter was die de W14 wegpoetst.
