Verstappen kijkt uit naar seizoenstart: "Als team concentreren op verbetering"

Vandaag wordt het eerste Formule 1-weekend van het jaar afgetrapt met de mediadag op het circuit van Bahrein. De heren coureurs zullen hun mediaverplichtingen afwerken voordat ze op vrijdag beginnen met de vrije trainingen. Max Verstappen kijkt ernaar uit, maar hij weet ook dat de testweek iets anders is dan de race.

Afgelopen week werden er op het circuit van Sakhir in Bahrein drie testdagen afgewerkt door de teams en de coureurs. Verstappen en zijn team Red Bull Racing kwamen daar zeer sterk voor de dag. De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen reed snelle tijden, reed veel rondjes en de nieuwe RB19 zag er eveneens zeer betrouwbaar uit.

Verbetering

Verstappen zelf heeft zich in alle rust voorbereid op de start van het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen. De Red Bull Racing-coureur is duidelijk in gesprek met Verstappen.com: "Na de testdagen in Bahrein ben ik hier gebleven, het was dus een mooie aanloop naar het raceweekend. Na al het testwerk, gaan we vanuit een goede positie het weekend in. Je kunt van alles zeggen over het beoordelen van de data uit de testweek, maar een auto kan zich op elke baan anders gedragen. We zullen ons dus als team moeten concentreren op verbetering."

Beter doen

Verstappen is zich er dus van bewust dat de testdagen een volledig ander beeld kunnen geven van hoe de verhoudingen er echt uit zien. Op zondag worden de punten pas verdeeld in de Grand Prix en Verstappen weet dat. De Red Bull-coureur spreekt zich erover uit: "We moeten altijd proberen het beter te doen, dat is wat we het hele jaar moeten nastreven. We hadden drie zeer positieve testdagen, maar de race is wat telt."

Zag een grote kist aankomen bij RB, net als bij nogal wat andere teams. Kan om reserve onderdelen gaan maar ook upgrade. Normaal komen de eerste foto's vandaag door en nu al benieuwd wie met iets nieuws op de wagens komt.

  Ik niet. Wanneer op voorhand duidelijk is wie er gaat winnen is de lol er van af. Om kampioen te worden moet je vanaf de eerste race voor de overwinning strijden. Ik zie Ferrari en Mercedes helaas niet daartoe in staat. Beide teams staan op dit moment er niet goed voor. Waarbij gezegd moet worden dat Ferrari dichterbij RBR staat dan Mercedes.

  Ik van alle wagens :-) en dan heb ik goed nieuws voor je:
  De FIA heeft daarover een regel aangepast zodat we niks zouden mogen missen op vrijdag voor de 1ste FP. Ieder team moet namelijk zijn wagen buiten de garage opstellen en zelfs al is het maar 1 wagen die is voorzien van een update, moeten ze die toelichten.
  
  Hoop dat we dit jaar tenminste wat spanning krijgen vooraan. Testen zeggen nooit alles en niet iedereen laat teveel in zijn kaarten kijken. De kalender is nog heel erg lang. Aan de andere kant als RB werkelijk zo sterk uit de box komt als bleek tijdens de tests, vrees ik daar wel wat voor

  Vind het nu al best spannend of deze kwali moet totaal anders uitvallen als alle trainingen tot nu toe. Maar verwacht van niet.
