Perez tevreden met P2: "De verschillen waren zo klein"

Het team van Red Bull Racing bewees in de kwalificatie in Bahrein dat ze nog steeds de snelste zijn. Max Verstappen pakte de pole position en Sergio Perez start de race morgen als tweede. De verschillen waren zeer klein en de Mexicaanse coureur kan dan ook leven met de tweede startplek.

In de allerlaatste run in de derde en laatste kwalificatiesessie gingen Verstappen, Perez en Carlos Sainz bijna even snel. Sainz viel weg in de laatste sector, maar Perez leek de pole nog van zijn teamgenoot af te kunnen snoepen. Het lukte de Mexicaan niet, maar dat betekent niet dat hij niet tevreden is met zijn kwalificatie onder het Bahreinse kunstlicht.

Spannend

Na afloop van de kwalificatie meldde Perez zich voor de microfoon van de world feed om te praten met interviewer van dienst David Coulthard. Perez deed zijn verhaal: "Dat was een spannende kwalificatie. Ik kan mij geen andere kwalificatie voor de geest halen waar de verschillen zo klein waren. De verschillen zijn echt marginaal en je kan niets laten liggen om het maximale eruit te halen. Ik voelde mij ook niet helemaal goed met de balans."

Speciaal

Perez is dan ook meer dan tevreden met het resultaat van de kwalificatie. De Mexicaan wil vanzelfsprekend altijd meestrijden voor de pole position, maar dit was volgens hem ook goed. Perez: "Ik denk dat je altijd een tiende per rondje sneller kan gaan, maar om deze start binnen te slepen voor het team is echt heel erg speciaal. We hebben ons beter voorbereid voor de race. We wisten dat we wat compromissen moesten maken en hopelijk betaalt dat zich morgen uit."

  Op een hoop rijden heb ik niet gezien, 2/10 is niet veel. Racepace daarentegen was wel veel beter dan Ferrari. Ik verwacht morgen veel van Alonso.
