Stroll voelt zich steeds fitter: "Ben nog niet op honderd procent"

Lance Stroll was anderhalve week geleden in Bahrein de meest besproken coureur van het veld. De Canadese Aston Martin-coureur stapte ondanks een polsbreuk toch achter het stuur en kwam uiteindelijk als zesde over de streep. Stroll geeft in Jeddah aan dat het steeds beter gaat, maar dat hij nog steeds niet op honderd procent is.

Stroll brak zijn polsen, en teen, tijdens een trainingsongeval met de fiets in Spanje. De Canadees moest de testweek missen en het was nog maar de vraag of hij zou kunnen starten in Bahrein. Terwijl reservecoureur Felipe Drugovich zich op de achtergrond voorbereidde op een debuut, herstelde Stroll veel sneller dan verwacht en kwam hij toch in actie tijdens de Grand Prix.

Pijn

Ook dit weekend in Saoedi-Arabië zit Stroll gewoon weer in de cockpit van zijn AMR23. De Aston Martin-coureur geeft echter eerlijk toe dat hij in Bahrein nog wel veel pijn had in zijn polsen. Tijdens de mediadag in Jeddah is hij daar goudeerlijk over en wordt hij geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Op de maandag na Bahrein had ik best wel wat pijn. Het was echter een goed weekend voor het team, dus het was de pijn wel waard."

Honderd procent

Stroll voelt zich in Jeddah in ieder geval wat beter dan anderhalve week geleden in Bahrein. De Canadees is er nog niet, maar hij geeft wel een hoopvolle update: "Ik voel me elke dag weer een stukje beter, ik word elke dag weer wat beter. Ik denk dat ik de ergste pijn wel achter de rug heb. Ik ben nog niet op honderd procent, het duurt eventjes voordat dit herstelproces voorbij is. Ik voel mij in ieder geval beter dan tien dagen geleden."
