Alonso barst van het vertrouwen: "We gaan het morgen zien"

Fernando Alonso is één van de grote winnaars van de kwalificatie in Saoedi-Arabië. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur noteerde de derde tijd in Jeddah, maar hij mag morgen als tweede starten door de gridstraf van Charles Leclerc. Na afloop van de kwalificatie was Alonso dan ook zeer tevreden.

Doordat Max Verstappen in de tweede kwalificatiesessie de strijd moest staken vanwege de problemen met zijn aandrijfas, lag alles open in het laatste deel van de kwalificatie. Alonso werd gezien als één van de gevaarlijkste outsiders voor de pole position, maar hij kwam net tekort. Een derde tijd en een tweede startplek zijn desalniettemin reden tot vreugde bij Aston Martin.

Goed weekend

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was er dan ook een glimlach op te merken op het gelaat van de ervaren Spanjaard. Alonso meldde zich bij interviewer van dienst Khalil Beschir: "Het is tot nu toe een heel erg goed weekend voor ons. De kwalificatie was ons zwakke punt in Bahrein, maar hier komen we goed voor de dag over één rondje. We zullen het morgen wel gaan zien, want Charles heeft die penalty. We gaan dus starten op de eerste startrij."

Vertrouwen

Alonso ziet dan ook genoeg kansen voor de Grand Prix op het Jeddah Corniche Circuit. De Spanjaard wil een aanval gaan plegen op het team van Red Bull Racing. Hij is er zeer duidelijk over: "We hebben vertrouwen. Het gat werd gisteren een beetje vertekend door het verkeer. Ons sterkste punt van de auto is de pace in de long runs en hoe we met de banden om kunnen gaan. Het gaat beter op zondagen dan op zaterdagen."

Wat mij opvalt: er gaat veel kapot of moet vervangen worden zowel bij Ferrari als bij RBR. Tot nu is Leclerc de enige die dat echt veel punten heeft gekost, maar als het zo blijft kan dat voor de andere drie ook nooit goed blijven gaan.
En dan moet je ineens wel rekening houden met Alonso. Geef die man een goede auto en hij scoort. En als bij hem dan de boel wel heel blijft is ie zomaar gevaarlijk.

  Wat mij opvalt: die Stroll was verrekte snel onderweg, had zomaar voor Alonso kunnen staan 😬 Deed hij toch uitstekend, tot dat foutje.

  Die Stroll kan dus toch echt wel een beetje sturen, zeker als je nagaat wie zijn teammaat is. De kritiek op die jongen moet nu maar ophouden.

  Stroll is niet slecht, als hij z’n dag heeft kan hij erg snel zijn, maar het weekend daarop kan het ook zomaar weer niets zijn.
  Constantheid is wat bij hem ontbreekt, en af en toe hele rare acties.
  Kritiek krijgt elke coureur, dus dat zal nooit ophouden.

  Grootste manco van Lance is zijn spatial awareness. Of in ieder geval het gebrek daaraan. Dat is dan vaak ook de oorzaak van zijn rare acties. Verder kan ie best een potje sturen

Wat zou ik het gaaf vinden als Alonso hem wint morgen. In de regel in Perez sneller natuurlijk, maar in zo,n race kan er van alles misgaan.
