Leclerc tevreden ondanks gridstraf: "Red Bull op een ander niveau"

Charles Leclerc reed in Saoedi-Arabië een zeer sterke kwalificatie. De Ferrari's leken niet mee te kunnen komen met het geweld van de andere topteams, maar de Monegask reed toch de tweede tijd van de dag. Door zijn gridstraf start Leclerc verder naar achteren, het zorgt voor wisselende emoties bij de Ferrari-coureur.

Leclerc rijdt dit weekend met nieuwe control electronics, aangezien hij twee weken geleden in Bahrein ook al een vers setje ontving van deze onderdelen heeft hij zijn eerste motorstraf van het jaar te pakken. Hij liet in de kwalificatie in Jeddah in ieder geval zien over de juiste snelheid te beschikken. Hierdoor heeft Ferrari vertrouwen op een goede afloop.

Na afloop van de kwalificatie mocht Leclerc zich vanwege zijn tweede tijd van de sessie melden bij de microfoon van de Formule 1. In gesprek met interviewer van dienst Khalil Baschir sprak hij zich uit: "Of ik tevreden ben? Ja en nee. Aan de ene kant denk ik dat het qua pace een zeer lastig weekend is voor ons. Ik ben dan ook heel erg blij met mijn rondje. Ik denk dat ik alles voor elkaar kreeg en dat ik echt op de limiet reed. Red Bull is hier echter op een compleet ander niveau."

      En snork wil jij ook beweren dat het niet de oorzaak van te hoog vermogen zou kunnen zijn?

      Robin, dat beweerde ik niet. De aandrijfas wordt niet berekend op alleen het maximaal motorvermogen. De maximale belasting wordt bepaald door piekkoppels die door de versnellingsbak doorgegeven worden. Als het daar niet goed functioneert, kan de as het flink te verduren krijgen, en ondanks veiligheidsdfactoren in berekeningen voor zo’n as kan een materiaalfout (zelfs een klein kerfje) al leiden tot scheuren of versnelde vermoeiing.

      Ik doelde ook niet zozeer aan de as, dan wel aan de bak. En dat deed RBH ook met z’n bewering over andere meningen.
      Het ging er in een ander topic over dat de bak wel degelijk gevoelig kan zijn voor te veel vermogen of dat nou pk’s of koppel betreft of beide.

      Alle componenten worden met zekerheid ontworpen op het maximaal vermogen die de motor kan leveren. Daar consessies in doen is het bewust creëren van een zwakste schakel.

      Boven de limiet van wat natuurkundig kan is alleen aan onze lieve heer toebedeeld 😇

      Maar, die stevige tik op de kerb kan zeker invloed hebben gehad op de gebroken aandrijfas. Maar ik weet niet hoe die as kapot is gegaan, weet ook niet wat de oorzaak was. Gissen dus.

    Goede kwalificatie, zoals hij dat wel vaker laat zien.
    Benieuwd of hij in de race een beetje snel naar voren kan komen.

    Goed gedaan van Charles. Ik vind het jammer dat hij niet de wagen heeft waarmee hij voor de titel kan strijden. Maar ach, dit hoort nou eenmaal bij de F1. Soms lukt het om een goede wagen te bouwen en soms niet. Daarom schouders eronder en volgend jaar weer proberen.
