Alonso aast op sterke zaterdag: "Kwalificatie wordt het belangrijkste"

Fernando Alonso is zeer sterk aan het huidige Formule 1-seizoen begonnen. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur eindigde in zowel Bahrein als Saoedi-Arabië op de derde plaats. In Australië wil Alonso vanzelfsprekend weer toeslaan, maar hij weet ook waar de gevaren liggen. Hij aast dan ook op een goede kwalificatie.

Het team van Aston Martin is momenteel achter Red Bull Racing het tweede team. Alonso presteert zeer sterk en lijkt zijn vorm uit zijn succesjaren terug te hebben gevonden. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen presteerde zeer sterk en reed in Saoedi-Arabië zelfs een aantal rondjes aan de leiding. Aankomend weekend wil Alonso dan ook wederom gaan toeslaan.

De zeer ervaren Alonso weet dat hij moet vroeg moet gaan presteren in Melbourne. Het circuit van Albert Park is geen inhaalparadijs, maar men heeft dit jaar wel een extra DRS-zone toegevoegd. Alonso is strijdbaar en wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Australië zorgt vaak voor een leuke race. Ik ben benieuwd hoe de baan is in vergelijking met de voorgaande jaren. Het zal ongetwijfeld sneller gaan dan vorig jaar. Hopelijk wordt er dit jaar meer ingehaald. De kwalificatie wordt het belangrijkste. Het is zaak zaterdag sterk te presteren, waardoor we in een goede positie terecht komen."

Het lijkt er toch behoorlijk op dat Dan Fallows het concept van Adrian begrijpt.
Dan is door ontwikkelen ook geen onmogelijke taak en deze auto geeft een veel betere basis dan die van Fer of Mer.
Het is zelfs niet eens meer ondenkbaar dat AM ook in 2024 nog het voordeel heeft tov de rest.

    Ben benieuwd hoe lang AM deze positie weet vast te houden.. Ik denk dat de fabriek teams snellere zullen inlopen. Maar voorlopig heeft Alonso nig het momentum

      Het budget is natuurlijk voor iedereen gelijk en ze hebben meer tijd in de windtunnel en CFD.
      Hoop weer een podium voor Alonso hier.
      Vorig weekend heeft hij het voltallige aanwezige team een biertje beloofd als hij na de start op de eerste positie zou liggen.
      Hij heeft na afloop het hele team zelfs op een uitgebreid diner in een chique restaurant getrakteerd!

      Ik denk zelfs dat de kans groot is, Rimmer. Ferrari en Mercedes zullen waarschijnlijk moeten kiezen voor een nieuwe visie en een nieuw chassis zit er dit jaar niet in gezien de cap. Dat is ondertussen wel duidelijk. Ze moeten dus volgend seizoen beginnen met een nieuw chassis gebaseerd op een nieuwe visie. Het lijkt er op dat Mercedes deze benadering gaat hanteren, maar helaas is Ferrari nu vooral de rol aan het spelen die Mercedes vorig seizoen speelde: We gaan het gat dichten en we gaan winnen. Aan het begin van het seizoen beweerden zezelfs nog mee te gaan doen voor het kampioenschap. Gelukkig is in deze dan weer wel Ferrari meer realistisch. Hoop ik althans.

      Ik hoop dat ze zelfs nog beter gaan doen. . .
      Fabriekteams MB en Ferrari zijn eigenlijk nu al buitenspel en moeten met iets anders op de proppen komen - dat kost heel veel tijd en geld - beide zijn beperkt.

      AM heeft een wagen die nu pas 6mnd oud is met nog heel veel "unlocked potentieel". De ontwikkelings "slope" is veel steiler dan alle fabrieksteams naast het verschil in restricties dat eigenlijk gigantisch is. De motivatie in het team is nu dermate groot dat ze worden gevraagd naar huis te gaan (dixit TP AM volgens podcast). De kennis is aanwezig en Dan heeft naast de goede ingevingen van Adrian er zelf ook wel een aantal. Fernando kan met zijn ervaring hen daar ook een groot stuk in vooruit helpen. Al die factoren samen gaan rondetijd brengen, de vraag is hoeveel...

      Voor deze race spraken ze over een nieuwe achtervleugel met aangepaste DRS - dat moet ik nog bevestigd krijgen via FIA documenten maar dat kan hen hier zeker helpen met de hoge snelheden en topsnelheid.

      De reden dat Fernando zegt dat een goeie kwalificatie hier van groot belang is, vermoed ik dat die er wel zal komen (4 DRS zone's ! hier). RB is van een andere planeet natuurlijk maar AM heeft voor dit circuit een veel betere tractie uit bochten ook de grip in medium en hoge snelheidsbochten (vnl sektor3) is beter evenals een beter insturende voorkant (vnl sektor 1) als MB en Ferrari.

      Om al die redenen geloof ik wel in het AM verhaal - de tijd zal het uitwijzen, het is tenslotte maar een mening die ik deel 😉
