Alonso droomt van derde wereldtitel: "Geloof dat het mogelijk is"

Fernando Alonso is bezig met een sterk seizoen in dienst van het team van Aston Martin. De Spaanse coureur eindigde in de eerste drie races driemaal als derde. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen barst van de ambities en hij droomt dan ook van wereldtitel drie. Alonso blijft echter wel realistisch.

Alonso rijdt dit jaar voor het eerst voor het team van Aston Martin. De keuze voor de Britse renstal bleek een zeer goede te zijn aangezien Aston Martin momenteel het tweede team is achter Red Bull Racing. Alonso lijkt ook weer zijn vorm uit zijn beste jaren te hebben gevonden en staat dan ook derde in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap.

Realisme

Alhoewel Alonso momenteel de oudste coureur van het veld is, heeft hij nog steeds dezelfde dromen als vroeger. De Spanjaard wil vanzelfsprekend een nieuwe titel pakken, maar is in een interview met sponsor Bang & Olufsen eerlijk: "Dat is zeker het doel, maar ik denk dat we nu met beide benen op de grond moeten blijven staan. Het doel is zeker om een goede seizoenstart te hebben. Ze hadden het moeilijk in 2022, dus ik denk dat dit jaar vooral draait om beter worden en de auto leren kennen."

Mogelijkheid

Alonso steekt echter niet onder stoelen of banken dat hij graag een derde wereldtitel wil pakken. De Spaanse coureur denkt dat dit nog wel kan lukken. Hij is er duidelijk over: "Ik geloof zeker dat dit mogelijk is, daarom blijf ik ook racen. Je weet dat het een grote uitdaging is en dat je tegenslagen tegen kan komen. Je weet ook dat een paar teams momenteel de sport domineren. Maar ik race elke dag en ik train elke dag met als gedachte dat een derde titel echt mogelijk is."

  Vermoordt dat klein beetje hoop op wat tegenstand maar 😉
  
  AM komt in Baku met een nieuwe achtervleugel en wat tweeks aan de achterkant van de wagen. Dat zou moet hun topsnelheid helpen en gezien opnieuw een "rear limited" circuit - net als MIami trouwens - terug dichter vooraan brengen en mogelijk zelfs voor Mercedes.
  
  In Imola komt net als heel wat andere teams hun echte grote upgrade met de vloer en mogelijk al tweeks aan de sidepods. Daarna komen nogal circuits die hun heel goed moet liggen.

  Maar hij zegt ook niet dat het dit jaar moet gebeuren. En met de windtunnel verschillen tussen Red Bull (catering probleem en positie 2022) en Aston Martin (positie 2022) zouden ze dichterbij moeten kunnen komen.
