Hill onder de indruk van Alonso: "Hij moet advocaat worden"

Fernando Alonso werd afgelopen weekend in Australië weer als derde geklasseerd. De Spaanse coureur is bezig met een zeer sterk seizoen en liet in Melbourne ook zijn kennis van het regelboek zien. Hiermee maakte hij indruk op onder andere Damon Hill. De Brit grapt dat Alonso advocaat moet worden.

Alonso werd bij de laatste herstart in Australië achterstevoren getikt door Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz. De Aston Martin-coureur kon zijn weg vervolgen en profiteerde vervolgens van de nieuwe rode vlag. Hij liet over de boordradio weten dat de uitslag van de race moest worden opgesteld aan de hand van de startopstelling van de herstart.

Advocaat

Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Damon Hill was onder de indruk van de kennis van Alonso. De Britse oud-coureur spreekt zich grappend uit in de F1 Nation Podcast: "We maakten de grap dat hij advocaat moet worden! Ik wil hem als advocaat als ik ooit wordt aangeklaagd voor moord! Alleen maar racen wordt saai, hij moet iets anders doen. Hij rijdt rond en vraagt zich af of hij ook de strategie kan regelen!"

Hill denkt wel dat Alonso door zijn ervaring precies weet hoe het regelboekje eruitziet. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen maakte hiermee veel indruk op Hill: "Hij kent de regels al. Je kan dit verwachten van iemand die al zolang in de Formule 1 rijdt en al deze ervaring heeft. Je kan er echter niet automatisch vanuit gaan. Hij begrijpt dit, hij weet dit gewoon goed. Dit was ook het geval bij Michael Schumacher. Michael wist waar de openingen waren en waar de kansen lagen, dat heeft Fernando ook."

  Hoewel door de FIA soms enige onduidelijkheid ontstaat, ben ik vaak verrast dat coureurs bepaalde regels niet weten.
  
  10x aan de pitmuur vragen dit dat zus... een beetje een zwakte. Sterk voorbeeld: Russell. Hij had moeten vragen of Albon gespint was of echt de muur had geraakt... bij raken van de muur had Russell moeten zeggen: hoe groot is de kans op een code rood?
  
  Ik weet t mooi achteraf, maar dit hoort naar mijn mening ook in t systeem te zitten van een coureur die kampioen wil worden.

  Kan heel goed dat Alonso de regels uitstekend kent en snel kan oproepen, maar Fernando is zeker ook slim genoeg om zo snel mogelijk op deze manier de voor hem meest gunstige uitkomst wereldkundig te maken...

Ik ben blij dat hij nog de kans krijgt te laten zien dat hij een van de beste is in het huidige veld. Zelfs in mindere wagens bleef hij gemotiveerd pushen.
