Alonso weet nog niets over 2025: "Dan ben ik er klaar voor"

Fernando Alonso is momenteel bezig met een zeer sterk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur eindigde in de eerste drie Grands Prix driemaal op het podium. Voor volgend seizoen heeft Alonso nog een contract, maar of hij daarna verder gaat is nog onduidelijk.

Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Alonso vertrok tot ieders verrassing naar het team van Aston Martin na twee seizoenen in dienst van Alpine. Bij de Franse renstal keerde Alonso terug in de koningsklasse van de autosport, maar kon hij niet presteren zoals hij had gehoopt. Het heilige vuurtje brand nog steeds bij de 41-jarige coureur en zijn keuze voor Aston Martin is daar een voorbeeld van.

2025

Of Alonso in 2025 nog op de grid staat, is vooralsnog onduidelijk. De Spanjaard heeft een contract tot en met 2024 en hij barst nog van de ambitie. In gesprek met Marca zet hij vraagtekens bij zijn toekomst in de Formule 1: "Ik weet nog niet of ik een nieuw contract zal gaan ondertekenen. Maar, als het uiteindelijk zover gaat komen dan zal ik er zoals gewoonlijk klaar voor zijn hoor."

Lentestop

Vooralsnog geniet Alonso, net als de rest van de Formule 1-wereld, van de lentestop. Door het wegvallen van de Chinese Grand Prix gaat het seizoen immers pas later deze maand weer verder. Alonso haalt er zijn schouders over op: "Ik wil altijd racen. Ik denk dat ik veel tijd ga doorbrengen op de fabriek. We gebruiken deze tijd om ons zo goed mogelijk voor te bereiden op op de volgende race en om terug te kijken op de eerste drie races."
