Bottas: ‘Serieuze’ Formule 1-wereld hindert openheid van coureurs

Volgens Alfa Romeo-coureur Valtteri Bottas laten veel Formule 1-coureurs niet of weinig hun echte karakter aan de wereld zien. Volgens de achtvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar zorgt het serieuze randje van de Formule 1-wereld ervoor dat weinig F1-coureurs zich comfortabel voelen om volledig zichzelf te zijn.

Valtteri Bottas nam jarenlang deel uit van het uiterst succesvolle F1-team van Mercedes. De Finse coureur zag zijn toenmalige teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton naar een totaal van zeven wereldtitels rijden, maar zat volgens eigen zeggen niet helemaal lekker in zijn vel. Volgens de man uit het Finse plaatsje Nastola was de druk op zijn schouders te hoog, waardoor hij uiteindelijk psychische hulp inschakelde. Nu Bottas sinds vorig jaar bij het team van Alfa Romeo zit, komt het echte karakter naar boven. Iets dat nog bij veel meer F1-coureurs zou moeten gebeuren, aldus Bottas.

"Het is moeilijk om de (wereld van de) Formule 1 binnen te komen. Soms is het lastig om de echte karakters op de baan te zien. Als je de coureurs naast het circuit beter leert kennen, dan zien je hun echte persoonlijkheid. Maar het is normaal om je tijdens interviews en bezoekjes aan sponsoren op een bepaalde manier te gedragen", doelt de Fin op het zakelijke aspect van de Formule 1-wereld.

Bottas meent dat het voor de sport van belang is om coureurs te hebben die volledig zichzelf kunnen zijn, en noemt de naam van Daniel Ricciardo als voorbeeld: "De afgelopen tien jaar hebben we een aantal persoonlijkheden zoals bijvoorbeeld Daniel Ricciardo voorbij zien komen die echt naar voren kwam en zijn ware karakter met de wereld deelde. Ik denk dat dat goed is om te zien", sluit Bottas af.

Ja duh, het is je werk. Of denk je dat een gemiddelde werknemer zichzelf kan uiten op zijn of haar werk. Je gedraagt je gewoon omdat je een bedrijf vertegenwoordigd.

  gewoon niet lezen, heel simpel. en je werk doen. ik heb hier ook veel ´tegenstanders´, lekker belangrijk. misschien in het 100.000 keer zo klein, maar gewoon schijt aan hebben.

  Gewoon niet lezen werkt wel als het gaat om berichten op sociale media. Maar je kunt moeilijk je werkgever negeren of diens belangen in de wind slaan.
  Je krijgt vorstelijk betaald om te racen en daarbij moet je je schikken in de rol die je werkgever voor je in gedachten heeft. Wil je dat niet, dan moet je ergens anders naartoe gaan.
  
  Oftewel, alleen als je een hele grote coureur bent (en dus zeer gewild) kun je doen wat je wil. De rest moet zich maar aanpassen of opzouten. En kennelijk koos Bottas ervoor om bij Mercedes te blijven in plaats van voor zichzelf te kiezen. Dat is natuurlijk prima (zouden de meesten doen), maar dan moet je nu niet lopen zeuren.
  
  En Ricciardo speelt ook maar een rol. Die van vrolijke vrijbuiter dan wel, maar als die een tijdje stront chagrijnig zou rondlopen, wordt dat ook weer bekritiseerd. Dus blijft ook hij in zijn rol met de glimlach. Ook al is het als een boer met kiespijn.

Die ricciardo is juist een nagemaakte eerste klas, die deed/doet leuk om iets te verbergen volgens mij. ik kan er maar een paar opnoemen die ik oprecht vind. Verstappen hoort daar ook bij, en Perez is ook meestal wel eerlijk. de rest volg ik niet op de voet, maar ik vertrouw dat mercedes sowieso voor geen meter.

  Naast Verstappen denk ik eerder aan coureurs als Norris, Sainz en Leclerc...

Bottas heeft daar gelijk in. In zijn geval is het nog erger gemaakt door Mercedes. Iedere keer een 1 jarig contract om hem naar de pijpen van Toto te laten dansen.. Als er iemand in de F1 is geweest die meer waardering verdiende is het Bottas wel

  Walgelijk team Mercedes, blijkt maar weer aan Bottas, die Mick die nou bij Toto de koffie mag brengen, moet daar ook weggaan.
