Steiner lacht over Wolff: "Als mijn vader er was geweest had Toto dat niet gedaan"

Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner moest in de afgelopen maanden een aantal belangrijke beslissingen nemen. Steiner besloot Mick Schumacher geen nieuw contract te geven waarna de Duitser onderdak vond bij het team van Mercedes. Bij die renstal is hij tegenwoordig reservecoureur en haalde Toto Wolff uit naar Steiner. Steiner kan daar wel om lachen.

Steiner stak vorig jaar niet onder stoelen of banken dat hij zich ergerde aan de crashes van Schumacher. Het was één van de redenen waarom Schumacher geen nieuw contract kreeg. Steiner was daarna nogal uitgesproken in zijn nieuwe boek en in de Netflix-serie Drive to Survive. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff gaf daarna aan dat Steiner dit niet had gedurfd als Michael Schumacher aanwezig was geweest.

Vader

Steiner heeft de uitspraken van Wolff over de vader van Mick Schumacher ook gehoord. De Italiaanse teambaas van Haas kan hier wel om lachen. Steiner kan het dan ook niet laten om op zijn beurt grappend te reageren op Wolff in gesprek met Sky Sports: "Wat ik daarop te zeggen heb? Als mijn vader hierbij was geweest, dan had Toto dit soort dingen helemaal niet durven zeggen!"

Schumacher

Over de situatie met Schumacher is Steiner veel serieuzer. De teambaas wijst vooral op de vele crashes van de jonge Duitse coureur: "Het was niet makkelijk om te managen omdat er veel druk was vanwege zijn achternaam. Hij had daarna ook die zware crashes, het was lastig om daarmee om te gaan. Dat gold ook voor het team want de schade was groot. Je moet tegenwoordig je budget anders indelen omdat je met de budgetcap meer moet kijken naar performance."

Kritiek hebben is ok maar wat Steiner deed in drive to survive was gewoon teveel .
Ik snap dat Steiner zichzelf moet onderscheiden van de rest om toch in beeld te kunnen zijn maar dat had echt wel anders gekunt.

  Wij worden allemaal gemanipuleerd.
  Het echte verhaal is echt heel eenvoudig.
  2 maal 4 miljoen. 8 miljoen schade in totaal in 2 jaar. De exit is gewoon meer dan terecht geweest.

Als mijn vader erbij was geweest had hij Toffe Toto en Günther allebei een schop onder hun hol verkocht (gewoon omdat het kan) en daarna een ijsje gegeven...

Begrijp überhaupt de reactie van Toto niet. Gewoon schijnheilig niet collegiaal gezever. De enige coureur die hij fatsoenlijk behandeld is Hamilton. Zelfs loyale Bottas kon alleen meer iedere keer een 1-jarig contract krijgen. En dan durft hij wat te zeggen omdat Steiner niet verder wilde met brokkenpiloot Mick?

Ik vraag me af of Mick al die schade gereden zou hebben als z'n vader bij hem in de buurt was geweest? En zou Totootje het ook leuk gevonden hebben als Mick dezelfde hoeveelheid MB's plat zou hebben gereden? Ik denk het niet. Daarbij kan MB het makkelijk betalen en Haas niet. Ik vind Steiner nog heel veel geduld heeft gehad met Mick.
