Verstappen verwacht zware race in Miami: "Het circuit is heel fysiek"

Max Verstappen verdedigt aankomend weekend in Miami zijn koppositie in het wereldkampioenschap. De Nederlander reist daarvoor af naar Miami voor de gelijknamige Grand Prix op het circuit rondom het Hard Rock Stadium. Verstappen kijkt ernaar uit en weet met welke uitdagingen hij te maken krijgt.

Verstappen schreef vorig jaar de eerste Grand Prix van Miami op zijn naam. Op het krappe circuit in Miami overwon hij de hitte en wist hij de race uiteindelijk op vrij eenvoudige wijze te winnen. Dit weekend zal hij de degens moeten kruisen met zijn teamgenoot en titelrivaal Sergio Perez. De Mexicaan staat nog maar een paar puntjes achter Verstappen in de WK-stand.

Hitte

Verstappen heeft zeer veel zin in de aanstaande Grand Prix. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur heeft zich zo goed mogelijk voorbereid op de race. In zijn vooruitblik op Verstappen.com spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik kijk uit naar Miami! Het is een heel fysiek circuit en het was daar vorig jaar ook heel erg warm, dus daar moeten we ons op voorbereiden. Het zal echter zeker niet gemakkelijk worden."

Complex circuit

Het circuit in Miami debuteerde vorig jaar op de Formule 1-kalender en men was direct kritisch op een aantal delen van de baan. Verstappen weet dan ook wat hem te wachten staat: "Het is een vrije complex circuit en ik denk dat ze dit jaar weer een nieuwe laag asfalt hebben neergelegd, dus het is nog even afwachten hoe dat onze prestaties beïnvloedt. Onze fans hebben voor dit weekend de livery ontworpen, dus ik ben benieuwd hoe dat eruit ziet!"

    Zelfde compounds als in Australië en Jeddah met de C2/C3/C4
    Hogere temperaturen en iets meer laterale kracht dan in Baku.
    Nieuwe ondergrond en stratencircuit waardoor het oppervlak sterk zal evolueren.
    Tussen medium en laag downforce circuit met 3 DRS zones.
    Na de upgrade van dit weekend hoeft RB eigenlijk niks te vrezen.
    Belangrijk zal zijn om de banden aan de praat te krijgen/houden.
    Weerom een "rear limited" circuit wat Ferrari meer in de kaarten speelt dan MB.
    Minder tractie en rem afhankelijk voor een straten circuit wat minder goed nieuws is voor AM maar daartegen wel lagere topsnelheid.
    De prognoses mogen starten - om het even wat Max zegt, ik zet RB op 1 en 2 😉

    Wanneer moet dat voorbereiden/acclimatiseren dan gebeuren? Hij is pas vannacht om 01:15u in Miami geland, dus twee dagen de tijd om te acclimatiseren en van de jetlag te bekomen. Lijkt me erg weinig.
    Waarom zo laat naar Miami gaan? De rest is maandag- en dinsdag morgen al geland.

      01:15 Nederlandse tijd, het was 19:15 lokale tijd in Miami.
      Reis met een tussenstop op Isla Sao Pedro.
      De teams zitten vast aan een reis schema, Max reist onafhankelijk op zijn eigen schema.
      Ik blijf dat absurd vinden het heen en weer vliegen, in dit geval met geen tussenweekend, slechte planning.

      Die jongens weten van gekkigheid niet meer wat ze moeten doen met al dat geld. In dat geval zou ik ook.zeker lekker met mijn eigen jet gaan wanneer ik dat wil.

      En daar komt natuurlijk nog bij dat ze al 23 weekenden per jaar van huis zijn + de andere verplichtingen. Als je dat lichter kan maken door zelf te vliegen..
