Alonso voorstander van kortere DRS-zones

Autosportfederatie FIA heeft voor het tweede raceweekend op rij de DRS-zones ingekort. In Miami zullen de coureurs minder hulp krijgen van de DRS en wordt het waarschijnlijk moeilijker om in te halen. Niet iedereen is het eens met deze maatregelen, Fernando Alonso begrijpt het echter wel.

In Azerbeidzjan werden de DRS-zones vorige week ingekort en dat zorgde er uiteindelijk voor dat er minder werd ingehaald. Meerdere coureurs en teambazen lieten weten dat ze geen fan waren van het inkorten van de DRS-zones, maar toch heeft de FIA dit weekend in Miami gewoon weer ingegrepen. Of men hierdoor weer minder kan inhalen, zal dit weekend blijken.

Eén van de coureurs die wel een voorstander is van het inkorten van de DRS-zones, is Fernando Alonso. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur begrijpt de FIA en spreekt zich uit bij de internationale pers: "In Bakoe was inhalen vorig jaar te makkelijk. Ik hoorde Lewis Hamilton zeggen dat de DRS-zone te kort was. Voor hem was dat ook het geval omdat hij met veel downforce reed. De zone is dan te kort, maar voor Red Bull was die juist te lang! Verstappen kon op het rechte stuk Leclerc al inhalen bij start/finish, om daarna terug te gaan naar het rempunt bij bocht 1."
