Wolff ziet bekende situatie bij Red Bull: "Wij wonnen toen 19 van de 21 races"

Het team van Red Bull Racing is momenteel oppermachtig in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal won tot nu toe alle vier de verreden Grands Prix en geldt ook dit weekend in Miami als de grote favoriet. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff ziet overeenkomsten met zijn team in 2016.

Red Bull verdedigt dit jaar hun constructeurstitel en na vier Grands Prix gaat iedereen ervanuit dat ze die titel met gemak gaan prolongeren. Red Bull-coureurs Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez zijn veel sneller dan de rest van het veld en vooralsnog hebben ze de Grand Prix-zeges eerlijk verdeeld. Andere teams verwachten dat het nog wel eventjes duurt voordat ze Red Bull kunnen uitdagen.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff baalt dat zijn renstal momenteel nog veel tijd moet toegeven op Red Bull. De Oostenrijker kent het gevoel en kijkt in gesprek met Kronen Zeitung terug op betere tijden: "In 2016 wonnen we 19 van de 21 races en dat deden we meestal met een 1-2tje. Het is vergelijkbaar met wat er nu gebeurt. Deze sport is een meritocratie en we moeten erkennen hoe goed Red Bull is qua snelheid. Hun ophanging is echt een klasse apart."
