Magnussen na 'sterk' weekend in Miami: "Had nog meer gewild"

Na een sterke prestatie op de zaterdag, kan Haas-coureur Kevin Magnussen met enige blijdschap op de Grand Prix van Miami terugkijken. De Deen begon de race op een uitstekende vierde plek, en na onder andere een zwaar, maar interessant duel met Ferrari-man Charles Leclerc kwam hij als tiende over de finishstreep gereden.

De dertigjarige Kevin Magnussen bevond zich in een fortuinlijke positie op het moment dat Charles Leclerc zijn SF-23 auto in Q3 op de zaterdag de muur in boorde. De Haas-coureur had op dat moment namelijk de vierde snelste tijd, en aangezien de slotfase van de kwalificatie niet meer na de rode vlag hervat zou gaan worden, werd deze tot een startplaats op de tweede rij omgezet.

Na afloop van de race in Miami kan Magnussen met een goed gevoel terugkijken. Na een hevig duel met Leclerc, reed de Deense coureur als tiende de finishvlag tegemoet. Een goed resultaat, maar toch had hij op meer gehoopt: "Het was een heel goed weekend. Tuurlijk droomde ik van een beter resultaat dan die ik vandaag heb behaald, maar aangezien iedereen ongehinderd de race wist uit te rijden waren er geen cadeautjes te ontdekken. Het was dus een lastige race om punten te scoren."

Reflecterend op zijn race, vertelt Magnussen: "Ik had een klotestart, ik had namelijk bij het wegkomen meteen last van wielspin. Daarna zat ik in een lang duel met Leclerc, en dat was zwaar voor m'n banden. Het was een leuke race, dat zeker, maar mijn voorkeur was natuurlijk om niet te racen en gewoon vooraan te rijden", concludeert Magnussen.

  Magnussen was sowieso lekker bezig. Heeft zijn huid duur verkocht met goed positioneren en plekken direct weer terugpakken nadat hij in eerste instantie was ingehaald. Ik heb er ook van genoten!

  Magnussen toonde zijn weerbaarheid en vechtlust. Heb dat altijd zeer leuk gevonden aan hem. Die gevechten met Leclerc was 1 van de mooie dingen van Miami. Maar ik vroeg me ook af wat er met Leclerc aan de hand was. In normale doen had Leclerc Magnussen opgevreten. Ik vroeg me af of Leclerc even zijn vertrouwen kwijt was na die 2 crashes. Doet verder niets af aan wat Kevin heeft gepresteerd.

  @Snailer: Don't worry, jij bent tenminste dan nog een racer ;-) Wat betreft Leclerc, het enige wat ik weet is dat hij meermaals over de boardradio heeft geklaagd over stuiteren. Dus wellicht dat daar nog ergens een issue zit?

  Niet gehoord. Heb niet naar leclerc geluisterd. Vind het niet al te leuk rijders te horen waar ik in meerdere of mindere mate fan van ben en die niet goed gaan.
  Moet dan altijd me concentreren op mijn overgevoeligheid.
  
  Dank voor de info. Hopelijk vindt hij snel zijn vertrouwen en vorm terug.
