Ricciardo keert in juli in de cockpit voor Pirelli-test

Daniel Ricciardo fungeert dit seizoen als derde coureur van het team van Red Bull Racing. De goedlachse Australiër is dit jaar bij een handvol races aanwezig, maar zit verder amper achter het stuur van een racewagen. Ricciardo onthult echter dat hij in Silverstone weer zal gaan rijden.

Ricciardo maakt er geen geheim van dat hij in 2024 weer op de grid wil staan. De Australische coureur reed vorig seizoen nog voor het team van McLaren, maar zijn contract werd daar aan het einde van het seizoen ontbonden. Red Bull ontving Ricciardo met open armen en al snel werd duidelijk dat hij zich vooral zal gaan richten op een rol naast de baan.

Bij Red Bull gaf men al eerder aan dat Ricciardo in de nabije toekomst weer achter het stuur mag kruipen van één van hun auto's. Het was echter geruime tijd onduidelijk wanneer dit zou gaan gebeuren. Ricciardo maakt het nieuws nu bekend in gesprek met ESPN: "Ik heb al veel tijd doorgebracht in de simulator, maar ik zal de RB19 gaan besturen in juli na de race in Silverstone, ik rijdt daar een Pirelli-test. Daarna rijd ik er misschien ook nog eentje op Monza in September."
