Perez wil Monaco-zege prolongeren: "Heeft mij nog hongeriger gemaakt"

Sergio Perez gaat aankomend weekend in Monaco op jacht naar zijn derde zege van het seizoen. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur schreef de race in Monaco vorig jaar ook al op zijn naam en dat maakt hem hongeriger dan ooit. Perez gaat zijn uiterste best doen en weet waar de gevaren liggen.

Perez schreef vorig jaar de chaotische Grand Prix van Monaco op zijn naam. Toentertijd bombardeerde de Mexicaan zich tot titelkandidaat, een ambitie die hij dit seizoen al veel langer uitspreekt. Perez won dit seizoen al in de straten van Jeddah en Bakoe en hij wil aankomend weekend zijn status van stratencircuit-specialist gaan bevestigen.

Uitgerust

Na een ongepland vrij weekend, de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna werd immers afgelast, wil Perez zich weer volledig focussen op de aanstaande race. In zijn vooruitblik spreekt Perez zich eerst uit over de situatie rondom het circuit van Imola: "Mijn gedachten gaan uit naar iedereen die is getroffen door de overstromingen. Soms is racen niet belangrijk en heeft de veiligheid van de mensen de prioriteit. We hebben een week rust gehad en dat betekent dat ik zeer goed uitgerust afreis naar Monaco."

Hongeriger

Perez gaat dit weekend dus jagen op zijn tweede zege op rij in de straten van Monaco. De Mexicaan steekt niet onder stoelen of banken dat zijn vorige Monegaskische zege nog steeds in zijn hoofd zit: "Dat heeft mij alleen nog maar hongeriger gemaakt om opnieuw op de hoogste trede van het podium te staan. Het weer kan hier tricky zijn en dat betekent dat we elk moment in de auto moeten maximaliseren. Het vinden van de juiste afstelling is belangrijk en de kwalificatie is dat ook. Die is vooral belangrijk als we op zondag kans willen maken op de zege."

  Als er regen komt kan er van alles gebeuren.
  Ik heb wel eens gehoord dat er maar 3 auto’s aan de Fijisch kwamen in Monaco

Gewoon de regie in eigen hand houden en een goede eerste run rijden ofwel als eerste snel zijn mochten ze meerdere ronden achtereen rijden. Daarmee maak je jezelf ook niet kwetsbaar voor een gele/rode vlag.
